Embassy in Chiang Rai?

Is there an embassy or immigration office in the city of Chiang Rai that I can get an application for a visa and certificate of residence?

 

Thank you! Also, is there a Land and Transport office in Chiang Rai?

 

It seems like there are offices in Chiang Saen and Mae Sai but not Chiang Rai. 

 

Also, I would really prefer not having to go to Chiang Mai to do all this but Chiang Mai has an official embassy.

sorry not embassy but immigration office that can help all foreigners who want documents for applying for work, marriage, and edu visas. I am from Japan though.

Both Chiang Rai Immigration and the Land and Transport Office are on the same road.  I somehow doubt immigration deals with work permits but I could be wrong.

 

I always recommend going to the source, so just stop by and ask them what they can and cannot do.

ChiangRai immigration is handled at Mai Sai.  You must do immigration matters in the province you live.  Immigration does not provide paperwork for visas and only issues them for those allowed extensions of stay (one conversion non immigrant entry for 90 days to allow extension to be made).  For visas you visit a Thai Consulate outside of Thailand with marriage paperwork/employment paperwork or school paperwork.  You get the paperwork from school or employer.

If you are asking for marriage paper to allow marriage to be registered at a District Office then yes you get that from your Consulate - but that has nothing to do with visas - you obtain visas from a Thai Consulate unless you can qualify for immediate extension of stay for one year and in that case you might be able to obtain one 90 day stay from immigration for that purpose - but it might require doing so in Bangkok.

Work permit is done by the Labor office (don't know official title), which is next to the new immigration, on the same road as the DLT. Not in the same complex, go out the driveway entrance closest to the immigration building, turn right, away from the traffic lights, and is the next driveway in the right.
I don't think they'll give you anything that will help you find a job. You need to go there once you have found one. Preferably with your employer who can read and speak Thai, and knows what needs to be done.
There is a stack of paperwork required for a work permit. I don't know exactly, but I sign many pages each year to get mine renewed. Copies of just about every piece of paper you could imagine.

Apologies, to anyone I've upset by my quoted post above, as I did a simple cut and paste from the CRT forum without the appropriate recognition it would apoear. I have the DLT location from my own records on my Google Earth (Map's) account and could have (should have it would seem), drafted my own prose. Innocently helping someone out I thought.

In pretty much any country in the world you are required to show up with the appropriate visa if you are planning on staying any length of time.  It is not just paperwork, rather it is a visa which gives a foreign national permission to reside in a country for a limited period of time.  

 

It is the sovereign right of every country to require documentation of foreign nationals who wish to enter their country and personally I don’t see anything illogical about that.

 

If you show up with no visa, are granted a visa on arrival and subsequently fall in love and decide to stay here, chances are you are going to asked to leave the country and reenter on an appropriate visa.

 

Chiang Rai immigration is no longer handled exclusively at Mae Sai since they opened an additional office in town.  The two offices are linked by a phone app which I have witnessed (very modern) so you can go to either location.

If you are planning (or hoping) to work in Thailand you have two basic options (there are some minor others but not worth mentioning)

Option A
Find a Thai company willing to employ you, pay you a minimum salary of THB 50K / month as well as social security benefits etc. you will need to pay tax on the salary part but it's less than 12% for that sum. The employer/you armed with necessary documentation need to go to a nearby country with a Thai Embassy to obtain a relevant visa. Upon your return with that visa your employer may apply for a work permit for you. DONE

Option B
Set up a Thai company with a minimum
Paid up capital of THB 2 million, employ 5 Thai folks, then proceed as per Option A
