PATTAYA: -- On Saturday afternoon, officers from the Royal Thai Police Bomb Disposal Unit, based in Chonburi District were called to a field in the North Pattaya area following the discovery of three grenades.

Khun Maitree aged 39, was clearing the land, located in Soi Takiendier, and came across one grenade and then another and then saw, what he believed to be another, partially buried in the soil.

Officers arrived and carefully recovered the grenades and identified them as a Type 82-2 Fragmentation Grenade commonly used by the Chinese Army, an M67 Fragmentation Grenade, which was used by the US Army during the Vietnam War and is still being used by them in 2014 and the third grenade has yet to be identified.

it looks like an american m67.

it does not seem to have its lever and obviously has not exploded so maybe it was not primed (had its fuse inserted).

so probably not that dangerous but nasty all the same.

any military experts out there?

Yes, it's an m67 frag grenade with safety pin and safety lever missing.

Not sure about American grenades but i do know that this type of grenade has the fuse in the the lever housing.

The lever (fly off lever) has a mousetrap type fuse, which means that when the pin is pulled and the grenade is released, the lever will be ejected (spring) off the fuse body and strike a percussion cap on the fuse.

This will release a slow burning RDX TNT pellet, which will then ignite the fuse and activate the grenade.

As the fuse assembly is connected to this grenade, it is primed and live.

the fact that the fly off lever is missing suggests that the fuse is a dud (most likely) or the fuse that was used was a drill or practice fuse (unlikely).

Whatever the reason for the missing lever, the photographer was either very brave or very stupid to get so close to this grenade.
