How do I report my new residency in Thailand and obtain a residency certificate.

Featured Replies

My family and I arrived in Thailand for 12 days ago and we are still staying in a resort/hotel which reflects the information on the departure card stapled in the passport. I have today signed a lease for a house for a year and need to apply for a residency permit at immigration to be able to buy a car and a motorbike. What paperwork are required ? I don't want to go to immigration and waist my time finding out that I'm missing a required document. Thankful for a correct advise.

The lease contract is sufficient for the residency certificate (not permit). Normally for two vehicles, you'll need two. You'll need some pictures too an passport copies too, but these are normally done at the shops by immigration for a slightly higher cost.

Whether you will be able to get the certificate of residency will depend upon the immigration office you have to use.

Then it will depend upon what they require to get one. That can be needing a visa or extension of stay or even if you have made a 90 day report to them or not. There are some offices that don't do them at all.

Thanks for a quick reply , I have an O-A visa, are there anything more requierd than the form from immigration , lease of the house , copy of house book and photographs, passport copy and copy of departure card and som patience, I' m going to the Jomtien office in Pattaya.

No problems in Jomtien. 2 or 300 Bt each depending the mood. You may not know this but they are supposed to be free, you're paying an 'expedite' unofficial fee.

I looked to an unused residence certificate i obtained in Jomtien, issued feb, '14. It has a photo attached and stamped on the bottom. Owner house book and ID copies were not needed, just a payment receipt.

Yes, I paid 300 baht earlier this month at Jomtien so I could renew my driving licence. I took photocopies of various pages of my passport (the same as when doing an extension of stay), a copy of my driving licence and a copy of a recent internet bill. 2 photos were required. I forgot about the photos but the officer took the paperwork and told me to come back in 20 minutes with the photographs. I actually returned 10 minutes later and after the officer glued the photos onto the original letter for me and a copy for the office, I was on my way.

Efficient service from Jomtien Immigration.

Actually all I did when I need residency verification, I went to my embassy and got a notorize statement, all though it does cost 1,500 Baht, but I didn't need to show them any documents or photo's.

The 'change of address' reporting to the Immigration should be made using the form TM28. A pdf-copy is attached for your convenience.

TM 28 - Notification of Change of Address.doc

A year ago I needed a driver license renewal which also included a new address. Took my wife who was good friends with lady at the license bureau, sat down, kept my mouth shut, smiled for the picture and was out of there in ten minutes, well ahead of the line. 300 baht with receipt for the license, no tea money. Thai style but lady gets a box of chocolates when I sail down to Langkawi.

take a printout of a map showing where your house is. (google earth)

if you get into the house before you go to immigration, look around for the electric bill and or water bill and take that with you.

smile. dress nicely.
