Thai born child with Thai mother, but on a French Passport.

Featured Replies

If a child was born in Thailand and has a Thai born mother, and has a French Passport, but not a Thai Passport yet, does that child have to have a visa? Probably not, but I'm curious.

The child is Thai so no visa is required.

If they were to leave and re-enter on the French passport they would need a visa.

A passport is only a travel document. The child is also a Thai citizen, meaning they don't need permission to live in Thailand. Their birth certificate denotes then as a Thai citizen, with an ID number and registration in the house book as further proof.

Plenty of Thai children born every day in Thailand and never need to get a passport.

Still, for travel, get them a Thai passport also so they can depart and re enter Thailand as Thai citizens.

Thanks, that is what I thought, but nice to have it confirmed.
