Democracy isn't dead, say Hong Kong's Occupy Central activists
By Wilfred Chan, CNN

Hong Kong (CNN) -- The struggle for democracy is not dead, say Hong Kong's pro-democracy activists, one day after their leader appeared to admit defeat.

The activist group Occupy Central had hoped that their threats of a mass sit-in in Hong Kong's downtown Central district would convince China to approve open democratic elections for Hong Kong's next leader. On Sunday, the Chinese government said the elections should only consist of candidates approved by a Beijing-backed committee, dealing a blow to democracy supporters.

Even the leader of the movement seemed deflated.

"Up to this point, we failed," Benny Tai, the co-founder of Occupy Central, told Bloomberg Tuesday. "What we planned is that we use the threat of the action to create the tension... Beijing refused to back down."

Sorry, doubtful. While I wish well for the HK people in their democracy efforts, the entire "occupy" movement really didn't do much in the West, and I doubt the Chinese wouldn't just arrest them all.

Could This be the way Thailand develops its democracy come Oct 2015? If so there will be no need to worry about the voters choosing the "Wrong People"

It all doesn't matter in those so called democracy countries who you are voting for or who you can vote for. They all promiss a fortune to the voters and once elected they do whatever they like and don't care what the voters think about it.

Democracy is just to keep everyone in the illusion that what they vote for will matters.

Funny but all this is a reflection of the West.

Powerful "professional" people are always abusing the system for themselves...

And suggesting to "the poor" that THEY should take the lead and be moderate -
Good and...

be the pillars of society..........................................................................................
