Cambodian telecommunications company EMAXX signed a contract with China's Huawei, a global ICT solutions provider, on Wednesday in order to develop EMAXX's 4G network in Cambodia.

The contract was inked between Ai Min, CEO of EMAXX, and Weng Kefeng, deputy general manager of Huawei Technologies-Cambodia, under the presence of Kan Channmeta, secretary of state at the Cambodian Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and Li Zhigong, political councilor of the Chinese Embassy to Cambodia.

Under the contract, Huawei will build 4G base stations in eight Cambodian cities, according to a press statement after the signing ceremony. The whole project is estimated to take two years to be accomplished.

"The project is aimed to build a national communication and information network in Cambodia, consisting of the construction of an Internet Data Center (IDC) with multiple international gateways and a national fiber telecom backbone network with 400 Gb/s," said the statement. "When accomplished, the whole network will serve 90% of the population of the eight Cambodian cities."

Li Zhigong said China was pleased to see more and more Chinese companies making investment in Cambodia, which is crucial to help further enhance bilateral ties between the two countries.

"I believe that there will be more Chinese companies coming to Cambodia in order to contribute to developing the country and to create a better future together with Cambodia," he said.

Ye Qiong, chairman of Shenzhen KeyBridge Communications, which is the parent company of EMAXX, said EMAXX will officially launch 4G commercial network firstly in Phnom Penh in early 2015, providing 4G voice service, mobile broadband internet service, and fixed high-speed broadband internet service.

"This will enable subscribers to enjoy much higher wireless internet access bandwidth that will be 12 times faster than 3G network," he said.

Yu Quan, vice president and chief strategy officer of Huawei Wireless Networks Product Line, said Huawei was pleased to establish strategic partnership with EMAXX in Cambodia.

"Huawei looks forward to making our contributions with EMAXX to enhance Cambodian telecom user experience and to enrich Cambodian people's life through mobile communications," he said.
