Problem is that true high resolution LCDs are either not sold in Thailand or prohibitively expensive. The major sellers are the low end models, which are the 17" and 19", and have a max resolution of 1280x1024. There are 20" and 21" models, but their resolution doesn't increase by much. The popular Dell 24" sold in the US, on the other hand, has 1920x1080 resolution (equivalent to 1080p hi-def TV). Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

BTW i can play all the top games on it. Like Firefoxx mentioned, this is a low resolution monitor (1280x1024). Laptops tend to have higher res than that! You can run games at any res you want so that's not a factor; it's how good the detail can look if your card is fast enough to drive higher resolutions. At my desk I have a big CRT and have run 1600x1200 for over 10 years. Anything lower would be a major step backwards; I use every single pixel and would love to have even higher res, particularly vertical res for things like seeing even more in IE windows without scrolling. Because it is a big monitor the fonts are still nice and big (I additionally jack it up to 120dpi). The Thai price on the BENQ mentioned is not a good sign since in the US they cost half that price. Ian_B Posted July 20, 2006 Share Posted July 20, 2006 I've just ordered the new 24" HP PC monitor from shop4thai Been after a big screen LCD monitor for ages, I currently use a 32" Benq LCD TV but it suffers from too much temporary burn in. If I have a game or window open for more than 20 minutes the shadow of the image remains on the screen and it takes a long time to disappear. VERY irritating! Been all over Pantip & Fortune and none had screens larger than 20" so I had to buy it from: http://www.shop4thai.com/en/product/?pid=15302 Read the reviews (great) of this HP and though it is not cheap the 6ms response time is just what I'm after. I guess they get away with this pricing as there is no competition for these big screen monitors here The only other 24" monitor I found was the samsung 243, but this is Samsung's 2005 model and as such still has a crappy 30ms rate. For example if I play a game for more than 20 mins or have outlook open for longer than that then I get the ghost outline of it on the screen and the only way to make it disappear is to switch it off for a long time. Now it's less than 15-20mins VERY irritating Then you have a defective unit, LCD TV's are IDENTICAL to an LCD monitor and should act no differently, perhaps you have an older unit without DVI/HDMI or your computer is attempting to use the wrong resolution, LCD technology has no "burn-in" of any sort. You can display a static image for weeks on end and then change the image instantly, with no Ghosting of any sort (except perhaps 1/10th of a second). The only difference between an LCD TV and Monitor are a TV Tuner, Source selection and speakers, The technology used to display the image is identical. I use DVI for PC and VGA for Xbox 360 both at 1280x786 This is a genuine problem and has gotten worse as the TV ages. I have had my Benq for nearly 2 years now LCD burn in is a well known problem, which appears to be more common in LCD TVs than LCD monitors. I have had many laptops and LCD monitors for work over the years and have never had any issues with temporary burn in I suggest anybody thinking of buying an LCD TV do a google check on the matter. Please remember that this is not a permanent burn in like on plasma TV. It is more like image persistance. solo siam Posted July 30, 2006 Share Posted July 30, 2006 The BenQ has a native resolution of 1280x720, I've installed about 15 of those BenQ's and yet to see a problem with any of them, I still think you have a faulty unit. It sounds like the elctronic component of your TV is at fault, LCD Panels are LCD panels there is no reason an LCD TV would suffer problems an LCD monitor wouldn't. As I said I've had it for nearly 2 years now, longer than any LCD screen I've had previously. It was perfect at first, and there still is no image persistance from watching movies on it. Once I get my new LCD monitor the Benq will move to the living room where it will replace my old 25" CRT screen for my apartment. The Benq is still great for movies, just no good for sustained PC work. It has only acted as either a PC or console HD monitor all this time Flat panels vary in quality, maybe this is why the Benq are much cheaper than other brands? Ian_B Posted August 5, 2006 Share Posted August 5, 2006 I think the 1280x768 is a PAL format This works out as 16:10 and lots of games support this resolution I'm using the latest Nivdia control panel for my settings I should have my new monitor next week anyway so this issue will no longer bother me. Ian_B Posted September 3, 2006 Share Posted September 3, 2006 I got the 24" HP LCD from Shop4Thai a few weeks back and am very happy with it 1920x1200 is fantastic for work and play The response time is awesome, have never seen any ghosting and black colour seems really black. Hiya lannarebirth / fellow posters, I enquired about a Dell monitor at my local supplier, along with other stuff. He said they are very good but if you get a problem during the warranty they cannot be repaired in Thailand as Dell do not have a service centre here. Once I provide proof of shipment another monitor is enroute to me. I love mine and will probably get a 30" inch soon to complemnt the newly planned PC.
