ghworker2010
4 weeks ago I had a rabies antibodies test done. The results were: ''The Rabie antibody test was 25.76 IU/ml , that mean already has immunity. The normal value should be more than 0.5 IU/ml. '' What does this result mean? I had a booster rabies vaccine in feb this year and a yr prior another one. If I get bitten by a soi dog and obviously wash it off immediately... do I need to go and get yet another vaccine based on the above test result. I tried looking on the net but didnt understand the info. thanks
NeverSure
Ask the vet who gives you your rabies shots?
FBN
Rabies vaccination should not be regarded as 100% protective as much depends on the viral load of the animal as well as the site of the bite (closer to the brain, the more serious) the type of exposure (licks, broken skin or a full bite) and the time since previous vaccination. The WHO recommendations are, for your case, wound cleaning (not just rinse off) in an emergency room setting with proper technique and antiseptics and also booster vaccine on day 0 and day 3. No Immune globulin.
