Hey All,

Ive got an imobile IQ, this morning I woke up and it wont turn on... it keeps looping from the IQ blue welcome screen then turning off and back on again in a loop,

Also sometimes it comes up with a black screen saying

'Recovery Mode: Volume Up

Factory Mode: Volume Down'

I have tried holding the up and down key and nothing happens, I have also tried holding the power + volume up and down and nothing happens,

As I am 400km away from where I bought it I cannot take it back to the shop, anyone know how to fix this?

Cheers

Take out the battery. Reinsert battery after 15 seconds, restart.

Thanks for the message, unfortunately I cannot take the battery out on this model :(

Thing is, as the phone doesnt stay on longer than 4 seconds, how would I be able to do that? also I am on a mac and I think that is windows only.

The phone doesn't have to stay on. Just fire up for a second. As for the Apple, don't the new one's run windows as well!

You wanted a way of sorting it. Well that's it. Otherwise look at the I Mobile service center link.

You could try restoring the phone to Factory Defaults (Wipe Data/Factory Reset).

While this is usually done on a working phone through the System Menu, most android devices also come with a Recovery Mode that can be invoked on startup.

Partial instructions from WikiHow: reset your android phone
NOTE: This process will erase the 'data' contents of your phone, returning it mostly to new-in-box condition.
Volume Up + Home + Power
Volume Down + Power
Home + Power
If none of the above work, do a web search for your phone’s model plus “recovery mode”.
  1. Power down your device.
  2. Press and hold the recovery buttons.
The buttons vary from device to device, so you may need to look up the instructions for your particular phone.
You will need to press and hold the buttons for a few seconds.

Some of the more common button combinations include:
  3. Select Factory Reset (see article for menu navigation and how to confirm choice)
  4. Wait for process to complete
Otherwise you will probably need to send it to a phone repair shop or, as already mentioned, arrange for it to be returned for service.

First try holding the power button down for at least 15-20 seconds and see if the phone starts.

If it doesn't hold both the power and volume down buttons down, again for at least 15-20 seconds. You should get three options. Reboot normally, factory reset and I think the third one is recovery mode. Use the vol up/down to highlight the option and the power button to select it. I've found 'reboot normally' is all that's required.

Just to show how stupid I can be sometimes. The second time I had this continual shutting down after three/four seconds problem I immediately thought of the reboot option. But after trying to reboot unsuccessfully three times I realized all that was wrong was a flat battery. I couldn't have connected the charger properly the night before and the battery had simply drained overnight.facepalm.gif

If you're going to send your phone off to a repair centre, make sure you don't send it to Bangkok. I sent mine off and it took one month to repair. The second time I needed it fixing, I took it to Hat Yai and it was ready in less than three hours.

The lesson being that provincial repair centres just do the job without waiting compared to the main fixing centre in Bangkok.

Something jumbled the order of my original post, so editing and reposting here.

Check to see if the battery has a charge, as mentioned by sumrit, definitely! The device powers down automatically after it drops past a certain level.

Partial instructions listed here from the full article WikiHow: reset your android phone
NOTE: This process will erase the 'data' contents of your phone, returning it mostly to new-in-box condition. It should not affect SDCard data, if any.

1. Power down your device.

2. Make sure your device has some battery charge left ( >22% )

3. Press and hold the recovery buttons. The buttons vary from device to device, so you may need to look up the instructions for your particular phone.

Some of the more common button combinations to PRESS & HOLD include:

Volume Up + Power

Volume Up + Home + Power

Volume Down + Power

Home + Power

You will need to press and hold the buttons for a few seconds. If none of the above work, do a web search for your phone’s model plus “recovery mode”.

This should put the device into Recovery Mode.

note: The glass touch screen does not normally function while in Recovery Mode. You must use the Volume Up/Down buttons to navigate the text-only menus, and the Power button to choose/confirm your selection.

4. Select Factory Reset and confirm your choice by navigating to 'Yes'.

5. Wait for process to complete

Your phone should restart automatically. You will then need to re-enter your google account email/pass credentials and re-download your apps.

Otherwise you will probably need to send it to a phone repair shop or, as already mentioned, arrange for it to be returned for service.

If its the one Tesco was selling with the sealed in battery my mates wouldn't start up, found you needed to hold down the power key for a good 30 seconds and it works perfectly now.
