PHUKET: -- A Russian tourist was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle and hit the side walk early this morning (October 2) in Rawai.

At 1:00am Chalong police and Rumjai rescuers were called to the scene and found the body of the victim Pavel Dzembo, 24, lying in a pool of blood and his motorbike nearby.

Rescuers took the body of the victim to Vachira hospital while police questioned witnesses.

The victim left Reggae Bar near Nai Harn lagoon and was on his way back to his hotel when the accident took place.

Police believe the victim may have been drinking which may have caused him to lose control of the bike and hit the pavement at high impact.

He could have been made to have an accident! Well yeah I don't know that.

Yep so you go to a bar to talk to the the ladies, remain sober, have an altercation about the price of the tea or something, then on ya way home you have an accident. Case closed. Everyone wins.

For once the cops are saying he "may" have been drinking.

I wonder why that is?

Regards

I rented a bike on Beach road next to the Police station some years ago before I had a Thai license. I had a USA, Florida license and the tout accepted it--- NO PROBLEM. The motorcycle had an empty gas tank so I put a gallon or so of gas in the tank for a pleasant sober few hours ride in the country. 30 seconds after buying gas I was waved over and threatened with ticket wearing the wrong color helmet for that day or noise or something. A 500 baht donation to the police orphans fund returned me to the motorcycle tout. "Give me my money back" oh no! So I ride down to walking street and circle down 2nd to return after a short stop.Tout happy with day's rental plus nearly full gas tank and his police neighbor happy with 500 Baht. Next victim not happy with a liter of coke in the gas tank.

Contrary to popular belief most drunk drivers get home safe and sound, incident free. Especially those with practise as I am

sure this guy did have. Maybe another vehicle was involved, maybe it was his unfamiliarity with the road. Not condoning

driving while impaired, just saying. We have all/most done it in the past. Now it has become socially unacceptable

in most countries and we have accepted that one should not, we do not. I do not judge, but wish he could have learnt

from his mistake rather than pay the ultimate price. He was not driving a truck, bus, car. He will be missed

by family and friends. RIP

Reggae bars don't have 'ladies' huh.png Or the mongers they attract which is why I favoured them when first here after having had a gutfull of 'boomboomboom I want you in my room' busting out of a tinny soundsystem midst a load of corpulent drunken old guys who all had 'portraits in the attic' laugh.png

Nowadays, not so much. They've all become over commercialised rip off joints, much like the rest of the island coffee1.gif
