Thai cops to get Go-Pro'ed...

Featured Replies

Not sure if it's the actual Go-Pro themselves, but my wife was saying Thai Police are getting hooked up to cameras to help keep things more honest out on the beat.

Great idea if this is happening, anyone know if this is true?

Hope it's true.

Much more efficient and even in the short term cheaper than 10 000 bhat rewards.

Along with the camera should be very very strict rules and punishments for 1. Loss of the camera and 2. Camera being turned off.

Would be a good thing I hope

There were some threads about new cameras being installed in the major cities and tourist areas to increase the safety of the people.

May be this is true.

But can't see how the cameras will prevent the police changing their habits.

In fact, being the police they know where the cameras are and they will avoid any dodgy transactions there.

A GoPro is a helmet cam type of camera that one wears so it will "see" whatever the wearer sees.

I don't know if they have been issued with this type of camera.

But, c'mon Sir, I know they are a little simple but not sooooooooooooo stupid as to attempt anything while wearing this camera.

a GoPro was the camera type that took out Michael Shuemacher's future.

He may still end up the only one never to see his own footage.

Be a good idea for curbing corruption though, when worn by the correct head

It seems like a win win to me. Simple yet brilliant.

Apparently it's the new governments idea.

I wonder which, policeman politician or pooyai has the go pro franchise in Thailand ?

On sale for only Thb 100k a pop

It appears that they wont.

from the "other" english newspaper, Oct 11th;

"Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak, a deputy Bangkok police chief, confirmed on Saturday the campaign was still running but officers must not use stealth cameras or secret devices in their endeavour as the practice was against policies.

Pol Col Somchai Kaosamran, acting highway police chief, also said on Saturday he had told highway police not to use camera or devices to spy on people. "We don't want to make people feel police are the enemy. If drivers try to bribe highway police, they will be arrested anyway. There's no need for us to use cameras," he said.

This is probably what your wife was referring too...

"A photo of a police officer went viral online with an illustration on where cameras and recorders are hidden on him. On Friday, an internal memo was sent to all highway police saying the National Council for Peace and Order and the police top brass had no policy to allow police to use secret electronic devices on people. funny that you should make such an ad hominem attack on someone whose native language is not English, and who, unless he follows the more extreme sports, would not know that a GoPro is a helmet cam...or a personal drone cam, for that matter.

if you had added even a small bit of information to help your fellow poster, i might understand it. but your post was just an attack purely out of the blue, and undeserved.

I hope they work more often than the CCTV cameras around Bangkok
