Australia: "social Context Of The Relationship" Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am going through the pdfs from the DIMA website looking at getting a fiance visa, and I came across this bit:

Note: providing only statutory declarations from your and your partner's parents, family members and other friends is not normally sufficient to evidence your relationship

They give other examples such as "evidence that you and your partner have declared your relationship to government bodies, commercial/public institutions or authorities"

Has anyone here come across this? What evidence did you give that was considered sufficient?

Thanks for all advice...

We took photos of our trips and visits together. I brought copies of all the passport pages from all the trips I had made to Thailand. Letters and cards and postcards and e-mails. I also brought paperwork with my wifes name such as being my dependent on the bank and life insurance statements. And with all that stuff to prove what did they want to see or look at or did they ask about? Not one thing the Embassy just did the interview but my wife did bring it all in for the interview just incase. :o

Merlin,

You are expected to prove that your relationship is genuine and continuing. This can be done in many different ways.

Statements from family, friends and neighbours.

Photographs together.

Proofs that you socialise together. Times, dates, places that coincide with your visits to Thailand and her visits to Oz.

Joint bank accounts.

Naming her in your will and providing a copy to the embassy.

Put your mind to it and you can think of many more examples.

The Partner Migration Book gives their own suggestions. Click here and read pages 38 and 39.

The migration booklet is merely a guide to assist you, There is not a need to satisfy every example they give but provide as much evidence as you can, even things they dont suggest.

Some good examples given already, also include in that, written invitations that are addressed to both you and photos of the events, eg; weddings, birthday parties etc...

Hi Merlin,

Mighty Mouse is spot on!!

What we did as evidence of our relationship (my fiancee is now in Australia) is provide photo's of our holidays together, photos of her with my family and friends, and other things such as hotel recpts with our names on them, money transfers, etc.

Also i get my parents, grandparents, bothers and close friends to write STAT DECS stating their relation to me and their knowledge and acceptance of the relationship with my fiance'.

Take time out to read through past posts and topics, it will be worth your while, u will get an insight into what goes on and u should be able to get a few ideas .. and continue to ask for advice, im sure everyone is more than willing to assist.

Happy reading,

Mark.
