Bangkok (BKK) > Darwin (DRW)

Darwin (DRW) > Bangkok (BKK)

Good luck. The last three flights I have taken with Malaysia Airlines have been a disaster. Two suitcases destroyed including one lost between Bangkok and Darwin for four days and when it arrived it had been slashed and pilfered. The second suitcase, a Samsonite, had a wheel ripped off it on the Bangkok to Darwin leg and a flush mounted lock smashed on the return trip. Oh, and of course Malaysia Airlines doesn't cover damage to wheels, handles or straps. Does missing count as damaged?

I'm still fighting with MAS over compensation for the damage and pilfered items. MAS like to try and settle their liabilities citing the old Warsaw convention when in fact Malaysia is a signatory to the Montreal convention which dictates much higher compensation levels.

On the two Darwin flights I've taken with them it wasn't just my luggage that failed to arrive or was trashed either. Last trip there was a really pissed off US marine on his way to Timor Leste whose two bags containing all of his kit failed to arrive. The Darwin reps for MAS generously offered him $60 in compensation, provided he sign an acknowledgment that that was full extent of their liability. Naturally he declined and in the process missed his connecting flight. On another fight five people who flew Bangkok-KUL-DRW failed to have their checked luggage arrive with them.

Despite having an automatically generated system confirmation for the complained I lodged online using their website after receiving the damaged and pilfered bag MAS is maintaining they never received the notification. The phone calls I made to MAS in Darwin (Menzies Aviation are the baggage handlers for MAS in Darwin) and Adelaide about the pilfered bag immediately after receiving it were also not received, according to MASs so-called "customer care" division, despite phone bills showing the calls had been made.

After falling for their bait-and-switch online booking system which shows a total price on one screen which can change by 80% on the next screen I've flown my last flights with MAS.

Thank you for let me know.....I hate those kind of troubles..

I was looking at flying Malaysian to Darwin but when I checked a few weeks ago the flight connections to Darwin were terrible i.e. the planes arrives in KL about 30 mins after the Darwin flight has taken off so a 23 hour transit time wait.

However when I rechecked yesterday the transit time was about 2 hours. Not sure what is going on but maybe I will now reconsider (and only take hand luggage).

The last time I was in KL airport the cost of a G&T was extortionate. I doubt it has got any cheaper.

517 is ok but singapore darwin one way is about 160 usd with malaysian airlines transit in kl bit of a wild goose chase these airlines are doing ..

darwin is a pain to get in and out of maybe try jetstar or chop the trip up into 4 flights with tiger or malindo jetstar and air asia .

might save 100 quid and pull a few hairs outa ya head at the same time

I hope you have been to Darwin at this time of the year before. Very humid but to the advantage if there are storms around you will see an exceptional light show.
