PHUKET: A Russian man wanted for extortion in his home country was arrested in Kathu last Wednesday (October 15).

It is alleged that Konstanin Zaretskiy, 41, demanded a million roubles (B972,000) from an intended victim, threatening to smear the victim publicly with made-up scandals if the money was not paid.

Summonsed by a court in Moscow in April this year, he skipped the country. His name was then placed on the Interpol “red list” of wanted criminals.

Earlier this month Thai Immigration Police discovered he was on the island, living in Plus Condominium in Kathu. They alerted the Russian authorities, who cancelled his passport on October 13, allowing him to be arrested for being in Thailand illegally

Pol Lt Col Tienchai Chompoo of Phuket Immigration Police explained to The Phuket News today, “We knew that he was staying in Plus Condominium. We went there and asked reception to call him down from his apartment. When he came down we showed him our warrant and arrested him.”

Zaretskiy is now locked up in the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok awaiting enforced repatriation.

Another Quality Tourist from Russia entitled to the privilege of visa free entry to Thailand.

This is only a tip of the iceberg.

How many criminals wanted in Russia for various crimes have escaped to Thailand and enjoy the life in the Kingdom?

Please keep up your good work Thai Police to clean the Kingdom from this shit!

I am myself a Russian national but I suggest that Thailand should consider cancelling the bilateral agreement with Russia and do not allow Russian passport holders to enter Thailand without a valid visa obtained in advance at the Thai Royal Embassy in Moscow... sorry.gif

Otherwise Thailand will be full of Russian criminals and mafia.

should be not only russians but everyone else who stays over the 28 days....but I think the cops should come down hard on organised crime like they do in Australia.....If the cops are on the take then when caught it is their job that is on the line and most of them get the boot from the force

Damn.

Impressive action from Interpol. Thought they were after bigger fish.
