Two killed, seven injured in van-truck crash in Prae

BANGKOK: -- Two women were killed and seven other people were injured when a speeding van crashed into the rear of a trailer truck parked on a roadside in Prae's Rongkwang district at 5 am Thursday.

The van driver, Chatchawal Chumchua, 30, told police that he dozed off while driving to take his eight relatives to a wedding in Nan.

The truck driver, Arkom Surin, said his vehicle ran out of petrol, so he stopped on the roadside and tried to wave other vehicles to avoid it but the van sped tower the trailer's rear.

Another day, another road killing.

I feel sorry for the death of the two women and I wish they Rest in Peace.

But I started getting immune to these news articles........so much........so often.

And there is no indication that they will start being more scarce.

This goes beyond "Thai-style," "Thai-way," "Thainess," "we-were-never-colonized-so-we-can-do-what-the-eff-we-want," having an amulet shrine on the dashboard, and chanting four magic words. It's time for Thais to swallow their pride, lose a little face, and actually learn how to drive. Until then, carnage on the roads will continue.

I refuse to ride in the vans, period. My wife's family wanted to hire a van and driver to take us all to a funeral in Chiang Rai, she was quite upset when I refused. I told her that I would follow in our pickup and take survivors to the hospital. We ended up going in 3 separate vehicles.

Dozed off at 5am in the morning while speeding. No one in the van noticed, or cared, to wake him up. Of course, probably all sleeping too.

The truck on the side of the road, the driver was trying to wave cars away from him? So no lights or flares?

Safety takes a back seat to everything in this country. No one takes responsibility for anything in this country. Will anyone be charged? With anything?

Thailand, third world, and rapidly moving backwards.

Some of the car or vans have so much crap in the front window how are they able to see ? I started calling them voodoo cars.

some windows are full of stickers and very dark film, no help for visability

The road is really dangerous, especially at night! Think about it, the truck driver ran out of fuel? The driver of the van fell asleep at 5am after driving from "where ever"! Speeding even though he was very sleepy and the road is very very foggy! Karma is a bitch! bah.gifwai.gif
