My bf (Thai) and myself are in Canada right now. Orginally we asked for a month visitor visa, we brought in his return ticket that said July 7- August 7. They gave him a visa that expires August 30th. So can we change his flight so he can leave later but still before his visa expires? Will this somehow work against us the next time we apply for a visa b/c he overstayed what we asked for, but he still is within the dates on his visa??

Cheers.

I'm Australian but I'd guess that Canadian requirements would be similar.

Whatever you submitted in your application to the embassy, was good enough for them to issue a visitor/tourist visa.

The embassy then stamp a visa into his passport along with any conditions they may want to impose.

The expiry date of the visa is one such condition that must be adherred to. The proposed dates that you originally supplied to the embassy now become irrelevant.

There should no need to contact the embassy over this change of plans. The matter is now out of their hands and is in the hands of Customs. Customs will be guided by the expiry date of the visa as shown in the passport not the date of the ticket your produced to the embassy.

Should you require further peace of mind, call the embassy in your local city and ask them.

Hey

When you entered Canada, the Immigration Agent would have scanned the passport details into the Border Control Comp. Database. Along with this scan, they register the date that they stamp in the passport. Upon leaving, the passport is again re-scanned and as long as the leaving date is on or before the expiration date on the passport/in the system, there will have been complete compliance with Canadian Immigration Law and therefore there will be no problem for future visits.

The date that you gave the Immigration Agent is used by them as a guidance date and it is at their discretion what date they actually stamp in the passport as the 'leaving' date.

Have a great time in Canada, it is a great time of year to visit.

Kind regards

Peter

Customs? Should be Immigration...

Otherwise agree to and as well agree to what Peter Jacksaon says. No worry to stay as long as permitted by the immigration stamp in the p/port.

Yes you won't have broken any rules in theory, but just be aware that you said a month and you showed this by way of a ticket as proof. The fact is you are now changing your mind having entered the country already. Maybe this won't be a problem this time and any future applications to Canada, but certainly if you later applied for , say , a vv to the UK they MAY just spot you stayed longer than you said on application and they may look closer at your application before considering granting your bf a vv to the UK.

Certainly if you said a month to the UK authorities and then got a stamp giving you 6 months (which you would likely get) and so assumed you could change your mind and stay 6 months , you WOULD be in a bit of bother at the next application.

Just be aware of it

But yes aware of it thanks.

So why pose the question in the first place; other than to seek reassurance of your own preconceived belief?

Scouse.

I am aware of it b/c atlastaname made me aware of it. Why are you being so harsh Scose? I was just seeking some advise before I made the decision the, atlastaname posted after I had made the change. Why was your response so harsh? Sorry if I ticked you off. But all I was doing was looking for some imput and then thanking thouse who did.
