Poppy Appeal - Samui Archipelago 2014

Recommended Posts

Dear All,

2014 marks the centenary of the outbreak of World War I, a conflict in which hundreds of thousands of British and Commonwealth forces and civilians lost their lives.

The British Ex Servicemen community are this week distributing Poppy Appeal boxes around the Samui archipelago at various locations (list at the foot of this message)

Remembrancetide this year commences on Sunday 26th October until Sunday 9th November. The Poppy Appeal boxes will remain in place until the 11th November 2014.

A Remembrance Service will be held on the 9th November, details to be published nearer the time.

The generous support of the resident community for the Poppy Appeal each year is very much appreciated.

Note from the Editor

In previous years it has been noted that some people living in remote parts of Thailand have voiced concern online to the effect that they are unable to find poppies locally. If anyone is in that position this year they’re welcome to email the group via [email protected]

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lest we forget
