wilkes
Hey Folks, I am new to the forum and have been to Thailand several times and am planning a move to Chiang Rai. I have some savings and will be pulling down on Social Security in about 6 to 7 years or so. I prefer Chiang Rai over Chiang Mai because it's less crowded, more natural beauty and a little less hot and touristy based on my limited experience. I am looking into some rental proprty right now, probably a 2 bedroom and will be arriving solo maybe a little out of town and not too fancy. I am looking for any thoughts or suggestions for a new comer and hopefully get to know some of you all in advance. I am looking forward to the adventure. AjarnP
Welcome to the Rai. You've made the right choice, though how long our little "one horse town" will stay this way is anyone's guess.

villagefarang
Welcome to the Rai. I think you will find that you are part of a growing wave of people moving here, so you won't be alone. Everyone adapts differently so just move at your own pace and enjoy the ride.
wilkes
Thanks for the kind welcome. It is a little scary, but I have been around Thailand and Vietnam alot and have really fallen in love with the northern regions of Thailand. Not completly sure abiout timing yet, but I am in recon mode so this is a great place to learn about what to expect with a more long term living situation.
