tbthailand
and saw the family of a Thai princess stripped of their honorific title 'a Thai princess' is rather odd wording. and Under section 112 of Thailand's criminal code anyone convicted of defaming, insulting or threatening the king, queen, heir or regent faces up to 15 years in prison on each count.Even repeating details of the charges could mean breaking the law. explains the second most important reason for eliminating the LM laws and the associated computer crimes act. The first reason is, of course, that you are not convicted based on what you did, but based on how someone else feels about what you did. Which makes it nothing more than a political-retribution sledgehammer of a law. One of the most draconian laws anywhere in the world.

Briggsy
Military hasn't had a real war so they are starting a civil war - good luck 95% correct. Apart from Rom Klao. They got their arse kicked by Laos in 1988. True to form they, the military, continue to hide the true extent of Thai casualties.
Colabamumbai
What is wrong with Thailand. I have been coming here since 1972. I have been living here 5 years now, sometimes working teaching, other times on a visa that does not really exist does it "retirement visa" no such thing as. Thailand was a good country years ago. Now it is not. I have to consider leaving, Thai people generally are good, not so for the country and the corrupt or convicted.
brfsa2
if anyone here would like to really understand what is really going on in Thailand, you will need Tor and Google . KOZMO
I do hope that the Junta understands the concept of "smoking out" and is monitoring all the correct exits from the maze of burrows that these people have constructed over the years. Wht not seize his assets here in Thailand????

EyesWideOpen
seems like all the perps were given lots of warning ahead of time Haha yes I was thinking the same thing. Sort of like when the police do a raid on a Bangkok underground casino, they always seem to be empty. This is the same thing on a much larger scale. The big fish always get away, which is Thai style. Well except for Pongpat, but of course that story runs much deeper than just a cash grab.

Stargeezr
I had wondered if only the CIP chief and a few police were involved, but it seems that more people may be involved with this scandal, and likely some others as well. I still love to visit Thailand on my holidays and hope to spend more time there in the future, as the majority of the people, rich or poor are decent people. The few people who are found out to be corrupt , deserve to be found out and charged. Speculating who is associated to who is foolish, I am just glad that the corrupt are being found out and are paying the price for their ways. EnglishJohn
I don't give a stuff if these people are red, yellow or blue : they are massively corrupt and karma is catching up with them. They are guilty, just like Thaksin is. Whether the choice to prosecute is political is a side-issue : they are still criminals. The fact that they happen to be red-shirts is just confirmation of who are the biggest scoundrels in Thailand.
manarak
.>> which has already snared several top cops and saw the family of a Thai princess stripped of their honorific title.<<Quote Interesting choice of words!! Thai media is a bit of a game of connect the dots ! Many police promotions at all levels in Thailand are subordinated to corruption, most money of course flows upwards. It's naive to think the Army is tackling corruption - rather looks like a money supply network is being shut down. Thaksin was better at that game because he controlled the police. slapout
Maybe the lest of the problem was solved by relieving the 3 judges who granted the billion baht man bail, of their duties. .Monks/temples who are fronts for laundering ill gotten gains, luxery cars gone missing from cutoms facility, millions of liters of fuel sold for different use than the fuel pump owners paid tax on, the loss and still climbing of billions of dollars in the rice scam, etc and those who hatched these scams and benifited the most seem to have abscounded or are being treated with kid gloves. If the relevent government agencies would do a compentent job, they may be able to charge, and imprison, 80+- % of politicans who have held office in recent years, thus eliminating them from future scams. Of course there would be a lot of the private sector included as they were also involved, hence much less trash, for the wind to blow into the yard. gemguy
As I was saying for the last 20 years this sort of business as usual type stories that expose a number of wealthy and influential people starting from the bottom to the top ( but the top, top never really get exposed ) is all part of how Thailand has always operated. I remember reading the news papers in 1987 and this sort of scandal was being exposed every week...a new story like this every week. Then the old story is forgotten because a new story would be published about a new scandal and corruption and government officials scamming and stealing money...nearly every week. Nothing has changed really. Cheers

I hope that was sarcasm.... i am not saying this doesn't happen in western contries but..... "Western country" denotes a consciousness not a particular place... Time to wake up to what is going on around you, everywhere I go now looks western to me....
