Thailand ready to host GMS Summit

BANGKOK, 17 December 2014 (NNT) – Thailand is ready to host the fifth Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit, with an emphasis on sustainable development and infrastructure improvement in the region, said the government official.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and the Secretary-General of the National Economics and Social Development Board (NESDB) Arkhom Termpittayapaisith has revealed the preparation for the fifth GMS Summit taking place on 19-20 December 2014 at Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok.

He has said that Thailand is honoured to be the host country of the summit, which will focus on the reduction of social inequalities through sustainable development and the development of the region's infrastructure.

There are six participating countries for the GMS summit, namely Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, and China, with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) participating as the secretary for the cooperation from six countries.

Leaders from all countries will approve the regional investment plan that includes the infrastructure connectivity development in the sub-region, and the development of the western economic corridor, as a tool to push forward the both domestic and international development, said the NESDB Secretary-General.

He also mentioned that participating countries will also benefit from the cooperation effort in developing the economic and social issues from this GMS summit.

A meeting with China and its satelite-states!!

"Leaders from all countries will approve the regional investment plan ..."

Thailand's economic strategy will be to have China make the infrastructure investments, own 80% of the projects, and build the projects using Chinese materials and equipment. All based on an inflated yuan exchange rate and repayment of loans to be in international currency.
