Malaysian Airways Upgrades

Featured Replies

I have booked Malaysian to fly economy to Darwin in April. The have invited me to make an offer to upgrade to business class on each sector. If my USD offer is accepted I will get upgraded and the extra cost deducted from my credit card.

Just wondered if anybody has worked out a strategy for getting the upgrade at a cheap price? When do you find out that your offer has been accepted? Best to leave it to the last minute? What is the lowest they have accepted?

Any tips would be welcome as I might be interested if the price is right.

Thanks

Start lower than what would be acceptable by you. Waiting to the last minute doesn't work anymore nowadays.

What is worthwhile for you is purely personal.

do not expect much use from this site. use a forum that properly adresses such issues-there may even be already some threads with amounts, on sites like flyertalk.com

Malaysian Airways? How much are you being paid to fly with them?

Not sure if you are talking about "MALAYSIA AIRLINES," as far as I know there is no carrier calling itself "MALAYSIAN AIRLINES."

If indeed you have booked with "Malaysia Airlines," it sounds like a very good offer and I'd suggest you check on the normal cost of such an upgrade and offer a bit less than half of that amount.

MH (Malaysia Airlines) is one carrier that provides excellent comfort and service in Economy anyway BUT... Business and First are both well worth the extra charge, even if you have to pay the full price.

I've made this warning before but it's worth repeating: make really sure that any airline website you use is the genuine one. There are so many look-alike websites with very misleading names that will come up at the top of the page when GOOGLING or using most search engines. These are usually run by shady travel agencies and will inflate the ticket price as much as they can. Not saying this is the case here but check anyway.
