How's the new KLIA2 terminal?

Featured Replies

I flew into KLIA2 right after it "opened" and it was a big construction zone with minimal signage and no concessionaires open except for one coffee shop with no currency exchange available.

I now have to fly there on a visa run and was wondering if this terminal is now a bit more organized with more shopping and F&B outlets open both inside and outside the terminal.

PLENTY of dining options and overall well organized. by no means a "Budget" - Terminal like the old LCCT or the super-crappy one in Singapore (which they luckily now closed). Even the KLIA Ekspres now stops there (and as it serves this station before heading to the main terminal building, you are guaranteed a seat which is not a matter of course anymore as they did not extend the schedule after connecting it with KLIA 2 which results in 50% or so more PAX).

The only negative point is the that you have might have to walk a veeeeeery long distance without the existence of moving walkways. Think of Swampy-Airport withouth moving walkways.

I had a MALINDO flight KUL - DMK in October and the flight departed from the most remote gate of the terminal building. After passing Immigration, it took me almost 25 minutes to get there (there were two X-ray procedures on the way but with almost no waiting time).

Thanks siam2007. I have a relatively quick 2 hour turnaround, so hopefully I'll have time for a bite.

New terminal is fine. I had a 14hr overnight layover in November, plenty of reasonably-priced food outlets, I even found a stall selling Royal Danish stout cans for RM5.20.

A few places to lie down and get shut-eye without being hassled by airport security, outside a hamburger stall.

I didn't bother checking, but assume the budget eating area outside the terminal, near the bus stands for the city, is still open.

But as Siam 2007, you might be pressed for time if <2hr turnaround between flights. AA

Only 2 hours? You'd better eat quickly then. It is easy to underestimate how long transfers take in this behomoth of a place without travelators

Its great, transferred there late christmas day night so probably not as busy as it could get

Had to get docs checked at transfer desk, then a security screening, then a nice walk to stretch the legs through the bridge to the 2 level spacious area with the food courts, shops and the airside hotel and where my flight was departing from, you need to go through a 2nd security screening as you head from that area to your gate

People will no doubt find things to whine about, probably the walking distance but there are travelators. They will conveniently leave that part out so their embellished whine story sounds better

Had a chance to check out the shopping mall too earlier last year, quite impressive

Did it 2 times with each time 2h stop. No problem you will be fine and 30 min left for duty free shop.

If you are in burgers, then think about my advise. Had yesterday the best burger for many years at Johnny Rockets Burgers in KLIA2.

Try the tasty 1/3 pound burgers if you fly through KLIA2.

Thanks schlog, good to know about timing and the burgers.
