Do you believe in the Scientific Method? And, why?

Dear Folks,

Some do, and some do not, believe in the Scientific Method.

What is your opinion?

If the world were run, politically and otherwise, based on the Scientific Method, would life not be far more pleasant for the Common Man, not to mention the LaoBaiXing?

How might adherence to the Scientific Method improve governance, at all levels?

Or, what about Witch Dunking?

Which would you prefer, in a perfect world?

Best regards,

Gamma

NOTE: How might the Scientific Method be applied in governance?

Still, do you imagine that most chimps want evidence-based governmental policy?

Just asking....(for a friend)...

Here is an example of American Evidence-Based Governmental Policy at work:

The most important thing is to separate ideas, theories and proven science, while remembering that even accepted science can be proven wrong when better evidence appears.

What a load of hogwash!

The scientific method is effective when followed correctly. However, problems arise when individuals' political biases skew the results. Has anyone heard of the reproducibility crisis, where over 80% of medical studies cannot be replicated?

the ultimate authority on scientific method Feynman

The world is and always has been run on the basis that wealth and power reign supreme. From the first caveman that wielded a bigger stick and coerced others to wield their sticks at his whim, to (insert the name of any politician of any persuasion, or nutjobs like Musk and Altman), wealth and power is all that matters.

It will never change. Science is merely one of many tools to be used or abused.

Theories are proven science. The most important thing is teaching people hoe the method works.

Most? Like >50%?

I must have missed that. Do you mean like the Earth is actually flat? It's only 6000 years old? Disease is caused by demons? There isn't really a Higgs boson? Shoot, I was finally getting comfortable with how mass is generated. Can you tell me why photons have no mass, yet they can be affected by gravity? That one has always stumped me.

Or are you just upset that somebody---not actual scientists--- gave you too many genders to keep track of?

I was unaware you're holding several advanced degrees in the scientific disciplines. Maybe you can write a piece for AN on the Schrodinger Equation. For lots of folks here, I bet it's all just Greek to them.

No it is not, this is the kind of statement that comes out of folks who believe they have an understanding about something that they know nothing or little of.

In science, theory is not proven science, theory is an explanation, not proof. Science doesn’t deal with absolute proof the way mathematics does. Am sure as with some idiotic statements have been posted we can expect more as usual.

So reading comprehension isn't exactly a skill for you. Shame.

As they say, picture is worth a 1000 word (I preferred not to waste my time with), and sources are in the snap.

Don't hurt yourself.

Real science says... salt is bad for those with a genetic predisposition to high blood pressure

Real science says... too much animal fat is bad for those with a predisposition to CVDs

Real science says.... in certain circumstances vaccination is safer than not

and any thinking deeper than the surface is of no interest to you.

Text is copyable and useable for subsequent enquiry... using pictures for that purpose is a pain in the butt

I'm not the one who needs things explained to me, as I actually understand what I see and read.

Good Luck in the future.
