A thousand masks dispatched for victims of Kabin Buri’s dumpsite fire

BANGKOK, 19 January 2015 (NNT) - The Public Health Ministry has dispatched a thousand more protective masks to people affected by thick smoke from a dump site fire in Kabin Buri District, Prachin Buri yesterday.

According to the Public Health Minister, 773 local people in 222 households were affected by the fire. The blaze was extinguished yesterday while the smoke lessened today.

The ministry expedited relief from the fire's impact on public health. Kabin Buri Hospital dispatched medical staff to provide affected people with first aid and health checks. 25-30 patients came to have their health checked on the day. Most of them had limited symptoms such as eye burning, pink eye (conjunctivitis), nasal irritation and a sore throat. However, their lungs were normal.

Staff are assessing air pollution caused by the dump site fire. People living in an excess of air pollution are being evacuated to a safe place. They are also advised to wear protective masks and drink much water, stay home and avoid outdoor activities until the situation returns to normal.

Moreover, the ministry intends to further its long-term plan for waste management, expected to be active by 2016 after 80 per cent of the twenty seven million tones of waste are destroyed appropriately.

Come on, do something about the pyromaniacs. Who owns the field which went up in flames?

One afternoon, there was a horrible smell of fire. The field behind our condo was a wall of fire. Flames we as high as 25 feet...

Over the years, we have witnessed those trash fires all over Thailand. Even the gardeners working at a post office or the caretakers of schools burn leaves etc. They need to learn about composting. Nature will do the work - just pile the rice stems high if you don't wonna use a shredder.

If they get free masks then whatabout all the residents in and around Pattaya, Jomtien and specifically Najomtien.

Nowadays we are in garbage fire smoke almost 24/7.

I quit smoking 6 years ago but never had so many lung issues since living here.
