Swamp Thing
I'd like to add English subtitles to downloaded movies. I've tried searching for a method online, but none of them work for me. I've tried downloading zip files, renaming them so that they have the same title as the movie, putting them in the same folder as the movie and using VLC media player with the subtitles option engaged to play the movie. No subtitles appear. Can anybody tell me which method they use to add subtitles to a movie?
draftvader
I'm sure it was a mistake but you missed out a step in there. Have you unzipped your files?
Pomthai
Check out "Filebot" http://www.filebot.net/ Create and account on opensubtitles.org - this is also a very quick and free sign up. Simple drag and drop. A brilliant piece of software and totally free and does heaps more than just subtitles.
Swamp Thing
draftvader, If only I could say it was a mistake. I'll try that and get back to you. Thanks for the reply. Edited January 22, 2015 by Swamp Thing
bartender100
I usually search the name of the movie plus subtitles on Google, new movies such as the the "screeners" don't always have them. All TV subtitles are here http://www.addic7ed.com/ Sometimes they are in zips, just extract, open the folder and drag and drop the subtitle file into the movie. Use VLC to play the movie Heres a couple SubTitle sites...:http://subtitles.images.o2.cz/http://divxstation.com/http://subtitles.images.o2.cz/http://www.podnapisi.net/http://217.64.35.213/index.php: ExtraTitles.TO- they have subtitles in many languageshttp://www.subtitles.cz/en/http://www.divxsubtitles.net/http://divxstation.com/subtitles.asphttp://www.subscene.com/http://www.subtitles.ro/http://subtitles.7nights.net/TV Show Subtitleshttp://www.forom.com/http://www.titulkykserialum.net/ (English/Czech)http://napisy.gwrota.com/ (Polish)http://www.hatak.pl/ (Polish)http://subs.motechnet.com/ Swedish/Englishhttp://divxsubtitles.net/Subtitle Search Engineshttp://www.subbiee.com/http://nlsubmit.tk/Subtitles for Specific Countrieshttp://www.kloofy.net/ (Asian)http://subtitler.hit.bg/ (Bulgarian)http://www.cesketitulky.com/ (Czech)http://titulkykserialum.net/ (Czech)http://www.nlondertitels.com/ (Dutch)http://ondertitel.com/ (Dutch)http://www.subs-search.com/ (Dutch)http://subclub.future.ee/ (Estonian)http://sub.divx.ee/ (Estonian)http://www.hot.ee/subland (English,Finnish,Estonian)http://www.xvidsubs.com/ (Finnish)http://www.divxfinland.org/ (Finnish)http://www.divxnurkka.net/ (Finnish)http://www.subtitles.de/ (German)http://www.greeksubs.com/ (Greek)http://dvd.stuff.gr (Greek)http://www.divxnorway.com/ (Norwegian)http://www.napisy.org/ (Polish)http://www.napusy.info/ (Polish)http://www.legendasdivx.com/ (Portuguese-European & Portuguese-Brazilian)http://www.central-subtitles.com (Portuguse-Brazillian,English)http://www.legendaz.com.br/ (Portuguses-Brazilian)http://www.subtitles.ee/ (Russian)http://forum.divxsweden.net/subs.php (Swedish)http://www.undertexter.se/ (Swedish)http://www.subdissidenteam.com.ar/ (Spanish)http://www.argenteam.net/ (Spanish)http://www.asia-team.net/invision/ (Spanish)http://www.subdivx.com/ (Spanish)http://www.videometre.com/ (Turkish)
Swamp Thing
Wa-hey! Happy days are here again! Using opensubtitles.org and unzipping the file, I've now got subtitles on the movies. I spent some time on this yesterday to no avail. I thought I would ask on TV and in a short time the problem is solved. Thanks very much for the replies. Thanks for your detailed reply, bt, I may use your recommendations at a later date.

MJKT2014
My days were made even happier when I started using Kodi to watch my movie collection. Not only does it add subtitles as you need them, it will catalogue your collection and provide synopsis from the internet databases.
draftvader
Yep. Have Kodi on 2 PCs, a pad and a phone. Brilliant. Addictive for tweakers like me too.
WhizBang
The best way, in my opinion, of keeping subtitles with a movie, is to combine them into a single file. For that job, mkvtoolnix (google it) is by far the best. It is a free download and works wonders.
james512
I've used Vidcoder in the past to hardcode subs into videos. Easy and quick. https://vidcoder.codeplex.com/
Swamp Thing
Thanks very much for all the tips. At the moment I'll stick with downloading from opensubtitles.org and using VLC media player, but I may take up some of the other ideas at a later date. Thanks again.
