Seastallion
This is new ? Not at all. I can only hazard that there's more to the story but the reporter didn't get it that it's the new (unreported) restrictions that are actually the news. I wonder what the new restrictions are?

I can only hazard that there's more to the story but the reporter didn't get it that it's the new (unreported) restrictions that are actually the news. I wonder what the new restrictions are? A TV member posted in the Chiang Mai forum (maybe three weeks ago) that police had begun coming into bars/restaurants near Tha Pae Gate and telling the owners that they could not sell alcohol between 2:00-5:00 p.m. In the past, I think most had interpreted the law - and in practice - as being limited to retail outlets like supermarkets and liquor stores. Popular Post Rooo
This has been in force for years. All they did is free up airports, entertainment areas from this directive.
Popular Post ThaiRich
Of course this will only be at the big name stores, Tesco, 7-11, Big C etc. You will still be able to buy beer and whiskey at your local mom and pops shop 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

WitawatWatawit
All I can see is the earlier time being extended by one hour. But nothing about bulk purchases. --- Outside the buying hours, can you still purchase booze if you buy in quantities of 10 litres or more? Shoddy reporting on this story. Popular Post chooka
Didn't Thaksin bring this law and times in years ago? I have seen the signs in 7/11 and supermarkets for years. So the junta are claiming this as thier initiative. Popular Post Tatsujin
Can anyone explain the "logic" in not allowing alcohol sales between 2pm and 5pm? What is its purpose? What is is supposed to achieve? You can't stop off and have a beer on the way to pick the kids up from school?
Popular Post SoilSpoil
Being an early bird and like to go shopping early to beat the traffic in Bangkok, its impossible for me to buy a decent bottle of wine when I want to. If I would purchase more than 20 liters (about 29 bottles of wine), I would have no problem. These rules are just plain stupid.

DGS1244
Whats new? This has been enforced for many years in Bangkok etc. If you go to cash and carry and buy bulk i.e. more than 10 litres then this does not apply anyway. No problem.
dragonfly94
This is new ? It is if they finally passed it as law. Even some of the bigger shops ignored it including foodland until recently, Villa can buy anytime still i think. Nobody has ever been prosecuted for selling out of hours as it was never an actual law. Edited January 23, 2015 by dragonfly94

Popular Post taony
Can anyone explain the "logic" in not allowing alcohol sales between 2pm and 5pm? What is its purpose? What is is supposed to achieve? You can't stop off and have a beer on the way to pick the kids up from school? Or stop off at the supermarket on the way home from work to pick up a bottle of wine because you are having guests over for dinner? I think if they want to reduce alcoholism/violence/accidents, they should be restricting the places they are giving exemptions to. The law as is is useless and nothing but an inconvenience to the people who are not targets. Edited January 23, 2015 by taony
