Hi Pete,

Many rental shops will rent a car rent without a credit card.

I've rented a car three times recently in Pattaya without using a credit card.

  • Twice from this place in 2014 : http://www.inter-car.net/rental-cars/rates.html
Cars are not very new, more like 3 years old, but I had a very good feeling about that business.
It think that it is a very honest business, they are are not going to charge you for no reason when you bring the car back.
All their cars have a 120 insurance code.
  • (because the previous car rental shop did not have a car left, I rented a HONDA JAZZ from this place (2 weeks starting end of december till beginning of january 2015 ) :

When I brought the car back the employee at the shop wanted to charge me 200 baht because the car was not perfectly clean. I refused and she did not insist. Maybe because she feared I was going to call her boss (a thai lady married to a belgian guy)
I was stupid enough to rent the car although it did not have the 120 insurance code but 110....
  • I know this business also rent cars without a credit card : facebook.com/maks.carrent
I went there, it is thai staff. The owner is russian. Some cars have a 120 insurance code while others only have a 110 code
  • In Konkaen, "191 carrent" (beside the Pullman hotel )will rent without a credit card.
I went there in december, I did not have a bad feeling.

I am considering renting from them in april but I have to contact them to be sure that their insurance has a 120 code.

Regards,

Eric

As mentioned, most privately-run rental shops will rent to people without a credit card but my problem with these is that they often dont have legal insurance and hardly ever have zero excess insurance.

Remember that Thailand is the world leader for damage scams for rented vehicles, and comes pretty high on the list for road accidents too.

When I rent I want to know that every last Baht of damage (real or imaginary) will be paid for by someone else.

Go online and pre approve your debit card or prepaid credit card with Avis and you can rent from them. It is easy to find on their website. This process with debit cards is necessary as they do require a credit card but accept this i lieu of a credit card.

Hi...use these people - www.lekcarrentaludonthani.com

Speak to Bob, English guy. I used them recently in December, he delivered the car to the Pullman in KK, or can meet you at KK airport and will collect the car when you return. First class service and cars, he is known to others on this forum. He will work something out with you regards payment. His email communication is top notch and available on the phone. If you need to call him go through Planet Numbers - dial 0844 6057777 then your Thai number..0066 ..etc...costs 1.5p per minute (use them everyday to call wifey who is still on holiday!).

trust me you will not go wrong using Bob..totally full insurance..no hidden costs. If you need anymore info' PM me.

Mike

Keep practising your English as I see you need some guidance.

= the slime = nono.gif nomen est omen (The name is an omen)

Rule = not mandatory, but for netiquette reasons

A lack of knowledge of the English language is acceptable, must not be mentioned,

nor shall it be blasphemed about! whistling.gif

By the way -slime- what is your native language, or your second language you able to read and write same most people here on Thaivisa? coffee1.gif

Don't need the detail myself but an excellent post Ericx25. Members like u are what TV is good for. 'The Slime' types unfortunately have to be lived with in order to get what's good from the site.

A debit card with the VISA or MasterCard logo can be used in the same way as a credit card - UNLESS it is a Thai issued debit card that says "VISA Electron" without raised lettering.

True, but that doesn't stop the confusion—and the frequent issues—in Thailand.

I hired a car in September, and the guy tried to say I could put a hold on the deposit with a Visa Debit card (issued in Australia); after much polite discussion, he capitulated and hand-wrote a waiver stating that I understood that the removal of the hold (after I'd brought the car back) could take up to two months. I happily signed it, as I knew he was wrong (I was a credit card specialist in a major Aussie bank in a previous life), and went on my way. Upon dropping the car back, the hold was removed and the money available within the usual few days.

Before I hired the car on my next rip in November, I got a sharp blade and scraped off the word 'Debit' from the front of my card. This made the car pick-up much less frustrating! The deposit was available the day after dropping the car back.

I had the same problem at Hertz BKK airport - they didn't want to take the card etc. Ended up taking 30minutes sorting it out - and they said in the future that they wouldn't even allow the waiver. I tried to explain but it was pointless. And the transactions just went thru as expected of a normal credit card.

  • 1 year later...

Hi I am a first timer here and a bit confused how to post a new topic, so here goes.

I am English, single parent, own a house in Kalasin and a condo in Bangkok. I andmy son live in Bangkok. I want my son to have contact with his family in Kalasin,so we travel back each month. I have my own car but the drive is long, particularly for a weekend.

We love Nakonchai First Class BKK to Khon Kaen. Its so comfortable.

My wish would be to pick up a car from Nakonchai Khon Kaen on Friday night and drop it off same place on Sunday noon.

Sounds easy !!! Well its proving to be impossible as all the usual companies need a credit card and the other ones can't communicate in English.

Can anyone out there help as the more I push the harder it becomes and its now a big challenge. I have a bottle of champagne in my fridge and once this is solved I am going to open it !

DOES ANY OF YOU KIND PEOPLE OUT THERE KNOW OF ANY CAR RENTAL PLACES THAT CAN:

1. DELIVER A CAR TO NAKONCHAI BUS STATION (ANY SMALL / ECONOMY CAR WILL DO)

2. WILL ACCEPT EITHER CASH, OR VISA DEBIT CARD (KASIKORN AND BANGKOK BANK)

If you can help you will make me (and son) so happy. Thank you.
