Suradit69
or as i see it is it all in there heads, mods sorry the tittle should of read, to the british,,, can you please change,,,,oooooops "do we disslike the americans,?" "mods sorry the tittle should of read," The "paranoia" is probably partially due to the little things like the difference in spelling in Britain and the US ... In America, we spell "tittle" as "title," & "disslike" would be "dislike," and we would say "should have" instead of "should of" and " their heads" instead of "there heads." British English is just so ... I don't know ... quirky & quintessentially British. ...and then there's the general indifference as to what the British think. As you show, polite language does not require accurate spelling or grammar. And also that you can disagree with someone, without being rude. I have worked with a few dyslexics, and it's very interesting to get their opinion on written documents. It's not dyslexia that causes people to call our colonial cousins 'septics' instead of 'shermans' although I am sure they would find the latter less offiensive, despite it being rhyming slang for masturbation. StreetCowboy
and i wouldnt dream of trying to pull someone down because of a disability,, but again that must be a british thing, eh A lorry driver was stopping in a motorway service station with his handicapped son. Some bikers sat down, and took the piss out of his son, hoping to provoke a fight. "Come on, lad, let's go" says the lorry driver "Ha Ha Ha - he can't have been much of a man" "Can't of been much of a driver, either," said the waitress, "he's just reversed over three Harleys"

Popular Post Commander Tamson
I hate being called a Brit............I am English,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Don't know why........it's only the English who call themselves British, anyway. That ain't true. I am most definitely British and proud of the fact. Born in Scotland of pure Scottish descent. Was going to change my nationality if that ludicrous referendum went the wrong way.. Anyway this thread - I think most of us only really know the Americans who travel out of America and apart from the odd idiom or two and their often strange habit of talking way too loud in bars cafes & restaurants, then, as others have said, genuinely nice people on the whole. I've spent a considerable amount of time in the states over the years, although have only actually lived in Houston. Have to admit that Ive met an uncanny number of what I can only describe as retards during those times and which kinda makes me often wonder how they ever managed to put a man on the moon. Most however, if not all, had hearts of gold and always seem to be genuinely interested in anything you had to say - found that a bit weird too. Had an absolutely amazing hour long conversation with a shoeshine fella in Manhattan once, who truly believed that Mel Gibson's Braveheart was based purely on historical fact. He wanted the whole lowdown on what AngloScot relations were truly like and not what the world saw on Fox News. I started making it up myself towards the end - the true king of Britain is the direct descendent of that French bird that ol' Mel had a roll in the hay with. And that there are yearly pilgrimages to his castle on the French-Italian border to pay homage to him and his line. Lots of Brits however are now voicing concern over his Australian accent. The guy was lapping it all up and even refused to take any money from me for my shoeshine - which btw was amazing. Nah! For me the ham-shanks in general are one okay bunch and are aw invited to ma hoose in Ubon next Hogmanay.
Baerboxer
After watching the TV programs "Brits in Bangkok" & "Bangkok Airport"......... In WW2 crashed aircraft in the desert theater had the word "derelict" painted in large letters on the wreckage so air crew flying over wouldn't keep reporting the same wreckage. Rumor had it that the Americans patrols would always ask to take a British serviceman along as they could never remember how to spell it.
