I usually do this journey in one long 14 hour or so drive, but am thinking we will stop halfway. Can anyone recommend any half decent (1000 baht odd) hotels near the AH2 at around the halfway point.

Halfway between BKK and Hat Yai is near Chumphon. I could not find anything on AH2.

What I did: Got off AH2 took 1007 and 3180 into Chumphon. There are numorous hotels there listed on Tripavisor.

I stayed at Suriwong Chumphon on Saladeang for less then 500B, parking provided across the street . There is a backpacker's bar and restaurent with farang food on the same street to the North accross the street.There are small Thai restaurents and street vendors at the night market just a short walk to the North along Krumluang Chumphon.

I took 2018 to get back on AH2.
