Yeah I don't think many people would enjoy a pint of diffraction and a bowl of CMOS chips.

Not even a Bokeh of champagne.

I agree - the general forum 'Pub' chat is more about subjects that anyone can join in with.... Thai Girls behaviour, radical Islam, Obamacare, where to buy real Spam etc.... But we want a specialist 'chat' where we can post stuff that only a keen photographer would find interesting. But I think we would also want photos as well as chat - so we can post stuff that does not fit in other threads but which is relevant to the subjects being discussed.

Yeah I agree with that.

For example the other week I switched my default homepage to Bing instead of Google, it doesn't warrant a thread but I wanted to mention one of the reasons why I prefer it too google.

If your a togger try using it for a few days at least, you will see why. http://www.bing.com/

Plus google don't pay tax in my country so our government puts that extra tax on us poor people at the same time as cutting the services that tax is supposed to be contributing towards.

I don't use companies like that anymore they are all boycotted.

It might be difficult and take a good time to create a new subforum.

Another possible problem is creating forum inside a forum, which may turn into a inside discussion and jokes. That might discourage potential new photographers, who wish to join in.

At the moment, technical discussion will naturally go under the Photography equipment & tools, other discussions are shattered under various topics.

For the time being, would it help if we had a 'My day with photos' and 'Photographer chit-chat' topics under the Photo forum?

Hi oilinki,

OK, so that would be pinned topics then? whistling.gif

If so give them a go, together with 'Welcome New Members' thread as well like the one that I started. facepalm.gif

I'm sorry, but I'm probably the worst person to ask for a pinned topic. I think the pinned topics take the space from real discussions and thus I would like to annihilate all of those :D

The Welcome New members topic actually sound rather good as pinned topic.. but then it would mean that there would be more pinned topics. Solution suggestion: When we get new photographers on the sub forum, we would encourage the person to visit the Welcome New Members topic. That way it would float up on the thread, when it's needed to be there. The new posters would also get warm welcome from our more experienced members.

The same applies to all of the topics. Active ones will be up to top of the list, when ever anyone of us wishes to reply to topic. Sometimes the topics fall behind the first page, and then one of us brings the topic back to life.

This is also being fair, I hope. We all want to have fun and be silly together, but at the same time we all know how hard is it to actually take a photo to be proud of (and secretly hope that others would think the photo was worth of posting). That's why the chit chat topics should compete with the same 'This interests me - market' as any other topic.

I like to hear opinions and possible solutions as well. Hopefully solutions, which don't require radical changes to the forum. Solutions, which we can implement inside photo forum.

Oilinki by the time the new members find the thread once it gets buried, they wont be new anymore.

I also don't agree with pinning it. New members get a welcome off most people anyway when they post their 1st shot.

The only new category I can think of is 'Miscellaneous/Off Topic' eg...anything that doesn't fit in the other categories.

Post Processing/software and shooting, DIY lighting Techniques would fit in that category as would other stuff.

I'd just like somewhere where we could post general photography related stuff and photos etc that do not fall within the current topics or sub-forums.

The current threads tend to be used to posts photos of specific subjects - Cars, Bikes, Pets etc. The Sub forums are for photo evaluation or about equipment.

Some things we want to post don't warrant starting a new thread - but may be of general interest to other photographers.

Perhaps a good deal we spotted on memory cards, or somewhere to post a funny, good or terrible photo that we've just taken without starting a whole new thread. A lively mix of general photo related stuff.

It's a 'Photographers Bar' sub-forum to post photography related stuff that are not part of a thread and do not warrant starting a new thread.

I was thinking about our Older Members and not really Newbies coffee1.gif Yes for sure Newbies should report and get there extension of stay in the "Welcome New Members topic in the General forum" whistling.gif

New members get a welcome off most people anyway when they post their 1st shot.

and by whom blink.png , by you sad.png ? only one or three of us do this, once we find a new member and why has this not been done by most of you folks on here, bah.gif that is why they DO NOT COME BACK TO THIS FOURM as it is "as mentioned before" as Closed Shop which it is NOT.

Both of you missed my whole point on this most important subject. I have seen many a Good Photo folks during my time on THAIVISADOTCOM come and go as they were NOT WELCOMED to this forum.

Win facepalm.gif just on a rant, I do not have many of them, but when I do then bah.gif
