Flight Ticket to Papua New Guinea

Featured Replies

I have tried to find information on other posts but can not find anything that answers my question.

I will be conducting a short term business contract in Papua New Guinea (PNG) with a view to extending if both parties agree at the 4 month point.

The company in PNG e-mailed me my e-ticket. It is only a one way ticket. It is issued by a travel company and the flight is from Bangkok to Singapore (Thai Airways) and then to Port Moresby PNG by Air Niugini.

I have been informed as I am from the UK I will be met at the airport in PNG and will complete a single entry business visa on arrival.

My question is will the issued ONE WAY TICKET be accepted at the airport (Swampy)? As I do not officially have my business visa yet so am a little concerned I will not be allowed to fly.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You have proof of onward travel from Singapore.

This is satisfactory for flying BKK to Singapore.

I would not expect any questions on that.

If there is anything to consider, it is the flight from SIN to PNG (Air Niugini).

Unfotunately I can't comment on that.

Would probably be helpful to have some documents (like an invitation letter incl. that statement about the business VOA) for that case.

Why would TH Immigration care that you are leaving on a one way ticket? You are gone, end of story for TH Immigration.

At the other in POM, the business visa on arrival may be problematic without all the right stuff. However, tourist visa on arrival is simple. Did that last year, piece of cake. That is your fallback position if your business prospect cannot put together the right papers. Can then try to get work visa once boots are on the ground.

FWIW, Air Niugini is a good airline - modern fleet, serve food on the planes.

Where are you staying in POM? The place is a real hell hole. Once in your hotel you will probably not venture outside at night if you are wise. There are a few good hotels in POM with nice amenities, but they are very expensive relative to BKK prices. Is your company picking up the tab for the hotel?

All in all, I do hope that you are getting paid a bundle of money to work in PNG. Quality of life there is not good, especially compared to a place like BKK.

Thanks for the replies. Yes company covering all accommodation costs.

Sure, immigration does not care, but the airline has to check whether the traveler is allowed to his destination (Singapur) with the oneway ticket.

Its common that airlines in Europe refuse you to fly to Bangkok with a oneway and no visa (as an example).

Return flight later than 30 days without visa or onward travel document: refused to board.

The latter one did not only happen to me thumbsup.gif

Just about the most hazardous short drive (civilian, non war) I ever had was between two hotels in Port Moresby. Up in the hills, night-time, narrow curvy road, driver was a local and probably just out of the hills, still had the pig tusk through his nose, clearly suicidal in driving intentions. Stay at the hotel is good idea.

Yep good old PNG...never a forward step.
