March 19, 201511 yr What is happening at 103FM? I caught the end of a message about having to close but do not know why. Have tried a couple of times since and not on the air. More Thai bs? onight we, Fabulous 103FM, cease to transmit here for a while. Like many radio stations around the nation..We have reached the end of our provisional transmitting period and been unable to satisfy the numerous documentary needs of the National Broadcasting commission in Bangkok. Some stations continue to transmit after their cut off dates, we will not do that, as it is not only illegal but the potential for punishment is high and expensive. Its only fair to our listeners and our sponsors to explain, without bias, the situation we are in… Fabulous 103Fm has continually supported the present government and their endeavours toward a new and brighter future for this country. As a result of the blanket closure of all stations last May, we were off air for 7 months. During that time, we borrowed money to keep our heads above water and invested heavily in building a new and better station for our relaunch in December. Despite being off air, we continued to produce daily news from around Thailand, in English, supporting the government, the nation and tourism here and, we hope, going some way to clarifying decisions made by the government toward what we see as a brighter future. In the background, we have worked daily to satisfy the requirements of the NBCT for us to continue further than the initial 90 day period afforded to stations upon their relaunch. We have failed, as many have, to meet that deadline. Until a few weeks ago the Commission had a provision that afforded stations a further 45 day extension, that could have helped us..but .. when we tried to apply for that, we found that it is no longer available to any station any more. The program was cancelled last month. One of our bigger hurdles was the necessary move from our old studios to the new ones. At the time we were forced to move, as the property we rented..was repossessed from our landlords by its actual owner, who refused our offer to buy. It would be disrespectful to detail the numerous trip ups of the past months, or to attribute blame for them, so I wont. But suffice to say, as a team, we have worked and paid dearly to satisfy, in every way, the sometimes changing demands and are now at a stage where everything IS in place, in the right hands and awaiting reviews. Once we are authorized to transmit we WILL be back on air. But none of us is willing to break the law in any way or do anything in our host country that would see us documented as the stereotypical Farnag or Falang.. after all we are NOT farang, we are Chao Dang Chard And we miss you already Tommy Dee on Pattaya 103 FM ( yes 3.. I am famous for going backwards) ...is an international Radio Leg-End
