Imported food wholesalers

Harry the potter

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm about to start a small food shop in my Isaan town. Is anyone on this forum an imported food supplier, or can anyone point me in the right direction to find one. I would like to stock some European foods for the ex-pat community but can't seem to find a reputable supplier in Isaan.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your posts, DILLIGAD and meatboy. I'm living in Phon Phisai and hoping to stock mainly frozen foods, imported lamb/ beef, pies and some other long life items like gravy mixes and marmite.

Haha, what did you mean meatboy "prepare for the shock," Is it going to cost me more than Villa markets to buy it all wholesale?

there are a few example's,hp.brown sauce 105bht,branston pickle 200bht,imported lamb around 350bht.a kilo, aus.beef you need a mortgage as for pies there are plenty of producers around.pattaya,buriram,korat.

for beef, the best in thailand comes from the pon-yang-kham co-op.

top quality sirlion wholesale,665kilo,rib eye 590kilo,sirlion rump 350kilo[best roasting beef i have had] top round 220kilo.

if you buy enough they will look after you.

unless you can compete with the likes of makro you will find it hard better to try and get it locally.

have a look at staffords foods i think they are in surin.

Just google it. Most supply to areas outside of Bkk on a regular basis.othere ship using the van system and stuff arrives frozen. Most will want your company info to open an acct.......there is a lot of stuff here.

Meatboy, Where can I get meat pies in Korat?

I would kill for a meat pie, so long since I had one.

Many thanks for your help.wai.gif

Korat Chef is first thought but many moons ago Ram Inn used to do them too???

Where can I find, Korat chef or Ram in?

Staffords (in Prasat)

Nookies Delights (Buriram province)

Korat Chef (Guess where)

Starfoods (Buriram)

They all deliver and there are probably many more in Isaan.

The point is well made that it is easy to get supplies to all parts of Isaan by delivery - or on the bus.

When I had a restaurant I would order my meats from WWMCo in Pattaya and they would be in Buriram within 7 hours. For pies, it was easy to arrange with Steve at Starfoods (Buriram Pieman), Gary at Staffords and Nookie who could supply any type of pie from Pattaya to Korat.

The problem is all pie makers in Thailand have there own version's pies, none of them are like English pies.

All the pies here are almost right but not the same.

They can not copy a good meat & potato pie or steak pie like Hollands or even Greg's.

They always want to use Thai meat and add more pepper or change the recipe in some way.

I have had to resort to using Holland's own recipes & making my own.

Not as good as Holland's pies but better than shop pies.

If anyone imports Holland's pies pm. Me i'm in the market for a good pie.

Hi Harry the potter,

Phon Phisai could certainly do with something like you are proposing, but is the expat / westerner market big enough?

It could also do with a good bar with western food for the farrangs to congregate, ( nothing around since the Westin bar closed )maybe you could combine the two to help make it profitable

Mmmmm pies, that's one of the things I miss while I'm over here.

And are you talking about NZ marmite, or the UK stuff.

And yes it's all going to be quite expensive to buy, but if there aren't any stores nearby selling it, then you might be able to put a decent margin on it.

If it's in Makro though, then I'd imagine most expats would just visit Makro in Udon once a month to stockup themselves rather than paying a premium for things like sauces etc (And I'd assume that you wouldn't be able to match/undercut Makro?).

So Harry, what have you decided?

And for those travelling through / around Phon phisai, The western bar has now reopened, with the original owners back, Just near the bus terminal, Great western and Thai food at good prices
