Apple Warranty/Repair experience

I have been told repeatedly to avoid Apple products in Thailand due to problems with warranty and repair issues.

Supposedly Apple products have to be sent to a single location in Bangkok for service and that requires excessive time and cost.

Could anyone with recent ACTUAL experience with Apple warranty/repair service please comment.

Nope. They have lots of service centres around Thailand. For more difficult repairs the unit MAY have to go to a central repair unit..

My wife's iPhone 5 had a problem with a popped screen. Initially took it to a service centre. They advised taking it back to DTAC ( where it had been initially purchased) they swapped it out for a replacement unit ( the phone is nearly 2 years old. But the problem is a known problem)

I had a warranty repair done on my MacBook Pro at the official place located in Central Chonburi, good service.

They recently gave me a brand new iphone 5, free. I don't feel Samsung would have done the same.....The threads here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/803312-iphone-5-swollen-battery/

My wife's had the same problem. The Dtac store swapped it for what looks like a new one.. It seems to be a VERY common problem.. Maybe that's why they are going the extra mile.. It wouldn't do to have a known fault. As for Samsung who knows maybe! Before this phone the wife had a Samsung something or other. It had a WiFi fault. 2 years old but fixed under warranty ( again it seems it was a common fault)

Had the mainboard replaced on my new Mac Air 2014 in Phuket.

They tried to tell me that the scratches on the top part of the pc voided the warranty. They tried to scare me into buying more Apple care. I told them no, did the angry farang game and they fixed it.

And yes, Apple sent a questionnaire a week or so later and I spilled the beans on these monkeys.

We have bought over 90 Macbooks over the past 3 years, used by staff, taken home by some, and have never yet needed to claim anything on warranty. Sorry I can't be of more help :)

My wife's iPad had a broken screen after a week, because it was dropped. We did not want warranty, just service. At that time the iStudio ( or whatever the official store is called) said it could not be repaired. They offered a 25% discount if we buy a new one in exchange.

Googled a bit, found a repair shop at MBK, went there next day and had it fixed in 2 hours after paying something like 3k. So it was repairable.

Had two logic boards in two different Mac's replaced under extended warranty programs and both times it was painless.

If you went back about five or six years the advice was probably good, but not now.
