Police to prosecute indiscriminately against human traffickers, accomplices

BANGKOK, 9 April 2015 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police has vowed to pursue legal action indiscriminately against any individual found involved in human trafficking.

According to Royal Thai Police Commander Police General Somyos Poompanmuang, anti-human trafficking laws will be enforced rigorously to deter traffickers. He claimed human traffickers have transporting victims through the Kingdom to a third country, while Thailand is also a hotbed for illegal alien workers.

Police have been able to arrest suspects in human trafficking syndicates and for transporting illegal migrant workers to the Kingdom.

The Police Commander claimed that legal punishments will be applied to anyone regardless of their status or profile.

A human trafficking database has been through a joint cooperation between the Ministry of Social Development & Human Security and the Royal Thai Police. The information will be shared among anti-human trafficking agencies.

Won't hold my breath to see that one materialize.

Yes TIP is due out this June and it's all hands on deck but this won't fool the US, UK, EU or the entire UN. If there was a Level 10 Thailand would be on it.

Yes, I can't wait to see Thai Police prosecute Thai military officers if they are found to be involved in human trafficking. But wait, that's where Article 44 shields the military from any judicial actions unless approved by the NCPO.

I'm waiting to see someone prosecuted for trafficking. The Bangkok Post ran a deplorably upbeat article on its front pages last week telling us that there had been >5000 investigations in the past year....over 90% were for no work permit and the cases against the traffickers were 7 where they were 'investigating trafficking gangs' meaning that the little guy might get caught but the big fish will walk. It's the way of the world unfortunately. I do hope the US/EU stick to their guns and force the issue with sanctions....hurting the wealthy not involved in trafficking might mean pressure on the police to arrest, convict and imprison some big fish.

Another first for the BIB ?

Never happen as it would break the habit of a lifetime. Check who you are dealing with before any other consideration and if they are a somebody, connected etc don't even consider anything else.
