Forwarding of mail from the UK

Featured Replies

Been searching for a post from sometime last year whereby it mentions a company in the UK who you can have your mail re-directed too,who will then scan and forward via e-mail.

There are a number of companies that offer that service, I suggest Google "UK Expat mail forwarding" for widest choices and then maybe ask for feedback on particular companies.

google for 'london office asia'

OP is probably referring to something I posted. I have been doing it for about 4 years now without a problem. The company initially scans the envelope and posts the image in your account. You receive an email everytime something is posted to your account. You then log into your account and choose if you want them to open & scan, dispose of it or store it. Once scanned it would be posted to your account with similar disposal and storage options.

Full details of the service can be found here www.ukpostbox.com

If you want a bit more info on how the addresses operate send me a message.

Edit. If you register with an overseas address you do not pay VAT.

A good interim solution for people on the move, I didn't look at their costs so I can't comment but the business concept is great.

But the risk seems high, the company has a net value of £1 and operates from a lock up in Freeland Park, the risk of identity fraud should not be underestimated.

Finally, how stupid do we think The Revenue is that they do not know of such companies or scrutinize them closely.

Honestly and seriously, I'm just trying to be objective and play contrarian on such things

Not sure exactly which referenced mail forwarding company you are referring to. The one I suggested requires that the UK tax exile account holder have their own registered UK address as well as the Thai address. The account holder can't use the company's UK mail forwarding address as their registered UK address. This is something that the UK authorities require them to provide before they can do business with any individual.

However, I do agree with the risks with any third party opening, scanning, filing or disposing of personal mail. I have met the Thai-based partner in the enterprise I use but regardless, I use them as a mail forwarder only.
