A Message to all U.S. Citizens in the Chiang Rai Area:

The American Citizen Services Section of the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai is pleased to inform you of our upcoming consular visit to Chiang Rai on Friday, May 8, 2015. Consular staff will be available to provide services from 8:30 – 11:30 in the morning, at the Meridien Hotel.

The following consular services will be available:

  • Passport renewal applications (Note: an applicant’s new passport will be sent by courier to the Consulate in Chiang Mai directly from the U.S. print facility. The applicant or a designated representative must pick up the new passport at the Consulate. It takes up to two weeks for the Consulate to receive the new passport. Applicants will retain their current passport, which remains valid until it is cancelled when the new passport is picked up). Please complete and print your passport application online here: https://pptform.state.gov/. Also, please make a copy of your passport (photo and signature pages) in advance to avoid paying for copies at the hotel.
  • Notarial services
  • Social Security or other federal benefits questions

NOTE: Unfortunately we cannot accept applications for Consular Reports of Birth Abroad or additional visa pages. Applicants must come to Chiang Mai for these services.

Appointments are not needed for these consular services in Chiang Rai. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you on May 8!

Sincerely,

American Citizen Services Unit

I just applied for renewal here in the states, for an extra $40 you can also get a Passport card which is copy of the passport info pages put into a laminated form.the size of a drivers licence. It is good for domestic travel, Canada and some Islands. Would be great for personal carry for ID over seas since there is no risk if lost.
