On a recent visit the rat problem in Chiang Rai seems to be completely out of control. Are the Civic Authorities doing anything about the problem ?

There are serious public health issues at stake in this city (60,000 people). Eventually there will be some sort of crossover into the human population. About 170 years ago Typhus (Typhoid) was identified as being from rat fleas. Wilde's disease can kill people and the diagnosis is often incorrectly assumed to be flu.

From memory the only city that came close to Chinag Rai was Sydney Australia about 2005. No other city came close.

No worse in CR than anywhere else I've been in Thailand, I'd actually say not as bad as many other places I've been to. Yet another nonsense topic.

Not the fault of anyone in Chiang Rai......the RATS are invading from BURMA.....you should know there are NO Thai Rats.

This arcane thread seems to have captured and lampooned the increasingly petit bourgeois tone of the last year or two (or 3 or 4) quite successfully. But the local alternative is packed with peeps who love sausages above all else, and seem to have a lower mean iq than their foodstuff.

Are Chiang Rai rats out of control? Yes and their wives and girlfriends are trying to straighten them out. Just listen those women when they say:

"Rat now."

"Rat over here."

"Rat this way."

"Rat away."

"Turn Rat."

"You're absolutely Rat."

Rai rats can be annoying, backbiting little rodents but they are mainly old and harmless.

My MIL & FIL think that they are quite tasty :D
