Hi All

am worried about my school running out of time. In less than 2 weeks, my 30 days' "on arrival" stamp will run out. And from what I've been reading, the days of normal Visa runs are gone.

They say they would get the B-Visa . Many a friend was rejected at Chaeng Wattana Immigration and I'd rather go to some other country than risk the same fate. Q: Or has there been a new development? Would be nice if local Immigration could process B-Visa applications and just charge a grand or more extra.

Are some of you in the same situation?

An extension would be just for 7 days and cost 1,900 B. (Fat chance, the school reimbursing me for that!)

Good luck!

A good question. Regarding a friend of mine, an Immigration officer, it's not possible to obtain a visa in Bangkok. I really believe that it's time for a change. Why can't the local Immigration issue a Non-B when you have all the documents?

It's really strange that people have to leave the country to do so.

Nor I did I hear anything from other people regarding that matter, that there're changes.

I believe because the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are responsible for issuing visas/consular services and they provide this at consulates and embassies - all outside of Thailand.

Immigration decides whether you can actually enter the country and whether you can stay. They do this at border check points, ports of entry and Immigration offices - all within Thailand. Immigration is part of the Royal Thai Police.

It would be simpler if there was a 1-stop service. However, I doubt streamlining bureaucracy is high on their list of priorities.

You can change a visa exempt entry to a Non-B at CW, the cost is 2000 Baht and you must have 15 days remaining on your permission to stay.

"An extension would be just for 7 days and cost 1,900 B." - No, an extension of your Visa exempt entry would be for 30 days and cost 1900 Baht.
