Crime Student Drug Test Leads to Arrest of Meth Dealer in Surat Thani

Authorities in Phanom District, Surat Thani Province, arrested a 35-year-old man for dealing methamphetamine after a routine drug screening at a local school revealed that a student had tested positive for drugs. The arrest was carried out under the direction of Mr. Teerut Supawiboonphon, Governor of Surat Thani, and coordinated by Lt. Somchai Ruangchan, the provincial deputy governor, Pol. Maj. Gen. Sermphan Sirikhong, Provincial Police Commander, Phanom District Chief Mr. Suchao Tumosik, District Clerk Mr. Pichai Sutsawas and Pol. Col. Athiwat Chaiyaseesut, Chief of Phanom Police Station. The suspect, identified as Mr. Pannathorn, also known as “Neung,” was apprehended at a rubber storage facility in Moo 1, Khlong Cha-un Subdistrict, Phanom District. Officers found him in possession of 296 methamphetamine pills, five 100-baht notes, drug paraphernalia and a mobile phone. Mr. Suchao explained that the district has implemented a proactive drug prevention policy targeting both schools and local communities. During an unannounced drug screening at a school, officials discovered that at least one student had tested positive for methamphetamine. Further investigation led to the identification of Mr. Pannathorn as the source of the drugs. Following his arrest, Mr. Pannathorn was taken into custody and handed over to investigators at Phanom Police Station. He faces charges of possession of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute for commercial purposes leading to widespread public harm and unauthorised use of a Category 1 narcotic. Local authorities affirmed their commitment to continuing strict enforcement and expanding their efforts to keep drugs out of schools and surrounding communities. Accident Dramatic Rescue as Man Pulled from Submerged Pickup Truck and Revived After Crash in Trat

In a dramatic rescue amid torrential rain in Trat province, emergency responders pulled a 24-year-old man from a partially submerged pickup truck and managed to revive him after he was found without a pulse. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 17 July on Highway 3159 between Khao Saming and Sa Yai, near kilometre marker 6–7 in Moo 6, Thung Nonsi subdistrict, Khao Saming district. The vehicle, a Toyota pickup bearing registration number from Chanthaburi, skidded off the rain-slicked road into floodwaters and overturned, leaving the cabin nearly completely submerged. The driver, identified as Mr Peerapol 24, was trapped inside the vehicle and unresponsive when rescue teams arrived. His mother, 46-year-old Ms Jureeporn, who was also in the car, had managed to escape with only minor injuries. Mr Narawit Charankul, a volunteer with the Sawang Boonchuayluea Rescue Foundation in Khao Saming, was first on the scene with his team. He said heavy rain had been falling throughout the night and he had been patrolling known flood-prone areas when he heard the sound of a crash. “I had just taken a photo of the flooding at that exact spot to report it to the authorities,” he said. “Suddenly, we heard the crash and rushed to the scene. The mother had already escaped the vehicle, but her son was still trapped inside and underwater.” Narawit immediately dived into the murky waters and pulled the unconscious man from the vehicle. “He had no pulse. We performed CPR for about 10 minutes right there at the roadside. Finally, he came around, he had a pulse and was able to respond when we talked to him.” An ambulance from Khao Saming Hospital soon arrived and took Mr Peerapol for further treatment. Medical personnel credited the rescue team’s swift response and tenacity with saving his life. Later, Mr Peerapol’s father arrived at the scene. He confirmed that his son and wife had been travelling from Nong Bon subdistrict, Bo Rai district, heading to Trat Hospital for a routine medical check-up. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. The incident has raised renewed concerns over road safety in flood-prone areas and the need for clearer warnings during adverse weather conditions. Adapted by Asean Now from Daily News 2025-07-17 -
