Cheap blood test reveals every virus you've ever been exposed to

Does anybody know if these tests are available here ?

"You'll probably remember the last time you had the flu, but what about that time you had measles – or was it chicken pox? Your blood knows: it keeps a record of every virus you've ever been infected with. A tiny drop of the stuff can now be tested to reveal a person's viral history.

The test, called VirScan, reveals that adults around the world tend to have been infected by an average of 10 viruses over their lifetime. It could also be used to identify links between viral infections and mysterious diseases like chronic fatigue syndrome.....

...."The team used the test to screen blood samples from 569 people from four countries – the US, South Africa, Thailand and Peru. As you might expect, adults appeared to have encountered more viruses than children. Each person had been infected with an average of 10 viruses over their lifetime..."

10 viruses?

I doubt that......More likely 100 viruses.

Or they put them together into groups

Alone what comes immediately into my mind

Hep A (vaccine)

flue

measles

rubella

polio (vaccine)

mumps

Herpes

Meningoencephalitis (vaccine+infection)

Japanese encephalitis (vaccine)

+several small infections like diarrhea....

Diahorrea maybe a symptom, I don't think it's a virus in itself as there are many possible causes for it like food intolerance etc

I would like to take the test anyway and see what I've been exposed to over my lifetime :0

No most diarrhea in Thailand (not speaking about clean Europe) are virus, some are bacteria. Comes from the food.

Food intolerance.....yes additional that eat to spicy and the food leaves you very fast.....or problems with lactose. But that is usually quick and most people learn to avoid it. I actually forgot about that.....

Interesting. Most cancers also have a virus connection.

No, most cancers do not.

About 15% of human cancers are estimated to be of viral origin, which in nobody's arithmetic (except maybe 'alternative arithmetic') is most.

I prefer to call it 'complementary' or 'integrative' mathematics, so that alongside ordinary mathematics, that sticks to western dogmas about 2 plus 2 equalling 4, we can also use a non-dogmatic total, of say 5 or 3.

While there is no evidence that this works, there is also no evidence that it doesn't work, so why not use it. Keep an open mind is what I say.

Ah Professor Part ting tong long time no hear.

They keep discovering links to cancers and viruses all the time.

Just because some study somewhere indicates a certain percentage does not make it so.

Stay tuned that percentage will increase with more knowledge of cancer.

yes that evidence based mathematics (putting 2 apples + 2 apples together and than count) is just a conspiration from the industry to sell their products.

Interesting. incidentally, tomorrow I have an appointment with one of the countries' best Doctors for infectious diseases. Wonder if he has heard about this yet

Maybe you should apply for a job as a research assistant with your pal Prof Part ting tong.

You can dream up your so called evidence based medicine theories that change with the wind.

We all know how unsuccessful they have been with the billions of dollars they have been spending on cancer research and coming up with nothing much for it.

Wish I had a dollar for every time they say they reckon they have a cure for a cancer over the last 30 or 40 years.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Yes right we didn't improve on cancer treatment in the last 30, 40 years. Every cancer still means that you are soon dead like 40 years ago.....

Today is the fun day here in the forum cheesy.gif

But it is proofed by the evidence based medicine that happy laughing is very healthy. So I am happily waiting for your reply thumbsup.gif

It can't measure all the viruses we have been exposed to, only those that have caused infection as it tests which antibodies respond to a stimulus. It also can't pinpoint when, or come up with a cure.

Nice party trick I guess.
