French Nat'l Entering from Laos on Tourist- 20 G Necessary?

Featured Replies

A friend is under the impression THB 20,000 is not needed. I think she will have a problem coming in on a flight to Phuket. Any replies appreciated.

I think that the actual requirement is 10k per person or 20k per family. Enforcement is entirely up to the immigration officer when she enters Thailand, so it's a crap shoot if she doesn't have it!

Most people don't get asked anything.

It's a fair bet that she won't be asked anything also, but it's just that: a BET.

I was not aware there were direct flights to Phuket from Laos. I think they will be going through immigration in Bangkok.

The 20k baht is seldom asked for unless a person has multiple visa exempt entries.

^ Thank you again Ubon Joe So flying in seems to eliminate a lot of the hassles that are encountered at the land crossings, from what I understand. I'll pass it on.

About the only land crossing that regularly ask for the 20k baht is Sadao. If entering overland from Laos it will not be a problem unless it is a back to back visa exempt entry.

How about these guys being refused at NongKhai?

I just come back from Vientiane. Nothing is sure anymore. I got my third 2x Tourist Visa from there in a row. No blue or red stamp. Two guys on our group got also the visa, but was refused to enter Thailand at the border. I don't know what was exactly the problem. The boss of the visa tour company told me, a guy got denied for a tourist visa, even he provided documents which proof that he got his income from abroad and that he own a condo.

There is not enough info to consider it a normal thing happening and is a mixture of applying for a visa and entering the country. Plus it is 2nd and/or even 3rd hand info.

There have been many more posts of people entering without a problem.

The OP is about a flight, not land crossing. Thanks for your reply though
