PHNOM PENH, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has deported 2,383 illegal immigrants to their birth countries since April last year until now, according to a report of the General Department of Immigration (GDI) released on Tuesday.

The report said since the GDI was established on April 12, 2014 until now, it had expelled some 2,383 foreigners, including 364 females, to their birth countries for illegally living or working in Cambodia. "Some 2,027, or 85 percent, of the deportees are illegal Vietnamese immigrants," the report said, adding that the rest of them are in 42 nationalities.

On Tuesday morning, GDI officials conducted a census on foreigners at construction sites in Diamond Island satellite city in Phnom Penh and arrested another 131 illegal Vietnamese immigrants, Ouk Hai Seila, chief of the GDI's investigation bureau, said.
