NARATHIWAT: -- SECURITY CAMERAS have reportedly captured clear images that could help police track down the men who carried out seven weekend bomb attacks in Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district.

"We have already examined 40 per cent of the footage and suspects are sighted," a source said.

Three people died and eight were wounded in the violence that raged between Friday night and early Saturday.

The recordings reveal a young man receiving explosives from someone crossing the border from Malaysia on a ferry.

"After receiving the explosives, the young man in a black T-shirt left the pier alone on a motorcycle," the source said.

Another video showed two men believed to be in their early 20s planting explosives on a shelf inside a large shop but pretending to be customers by making a purchase.

"Judging by their clothes and hairstyles, they don't look like Thais," the source said.

"They didn't say anything inside the shop."

The pictures were quite sharp and would become key pieces of evidence, the source said.

In neighbouring Pattani, security measures were beefed up in response to intelligence reports that violent incidents might be staged.

Police, soldiers and administrative officials joined forces to man checkpoints along both main and secondary roads in the province.

Unrest has plagued the deep South for more than 10 years.

Let's hope they are allocated a budget to store these digital images. Recent court cases have shown that any crime scene photographs will be thrown away without this special budgeting for digital image storage. It is a shame to see such evidence lost when it is billed as being "clear".

only thing that is 100% clear is the incompetence of any investigation & evidence handling.

You have correctly highlighted that the latest ' must say ' for so called investigators, sources etc is to quote a percentage of what's been done in the case being handled, or should that be mishandled ?

"Judging by their clothes and hairstyles, they don't look like Thais," the source said.

Sure thing.... no thais will do this. must be a myanmar national. I run if I was one.

first i would suspect the ''sources'' judgement, next his eyesight, then his awarness of hair styles as well as clothing styles. doubt he could tell the difference between a mexican and a thai at a distance of 20 meter nor many other nationalities either. In fact the source should be sent out to play in the middle of the street at rush hour with all light sources turned off and given a flashlight less the batteries. to find his way to identify suspects in a lineup thai style.

I keep saying the same thing :- give them the southern provencies and creat a border. Cut off ALL utilities and remove ALL police and army.

Any Thai's who do not wish to stay can be re homed and any Thai Muslims who wish to stay in Thailand

should be welcome.

After the separation any aggression will be considered an act of war.

The alturnative is to carry on being killed and maimed by these animals.

Whole story sounds as dodgy as hell . How could the determine from cctv that the packages were explosives, doubtful and they did not dress like Thai people again this is the Thai PR machine at work to impress the folks that they are on the cutting edge.
