Key witness threatened in trafficking case, top cop says
The Nation

HAT YAI: -- A key witness had asked to "lie low" in Malaysia after she received a threat from a key suspect following initial court hearings, said Deputy national police chief Aek Angsananont, responsible for inquiries into the trafficking of Rohingya and other migrants.

Aek, who attended a meeting of investigators in Hat Yai yesterday, said police would go ahead with a separate charge over the threat against the female witness.

He affirmed that police were still hunting for 46 other fugitives suspected of trafficking. Police should file the case against 72 suspects at the Na Thawee Court by next month, he said.

Imagine being dependent an "trusting" the Thai police with you an your family's security?

Agreed. It is clear that the words "witness" and "protection" do not go together in Thai police (Or is it Army?) vocabulary.

"Deputy national police chief Aek Angsananont, ........ said police would go ahead with a separate charge over the threat against the female witness."

Despite all the naysaying, to me it sounds like they're getting serious about getting these guys (or at least some of them).

The Police Chief wouldn't be publicising the threat otherwise.

Personally, if i was the witness i would disappear from everyone. Police and investigators and even family and friends. All can be bought out in thailand

I wouldnt put that kind of trust in any police force in the world not just the Thai force, would you?

"Thailand top cop"is not a statement that would bring security and relief to anyone involved in the myriad of corruption and deception this country exudes from it's very pores. The RTP have for decades been seen as a self serving mafia and actions and events over the past several decades only serve to rubber stamp and endorse this image.
