KANCHANABURI: -- A moderate 4.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Sangkhlaburi district of Kanchanaburi province at about 9.20 p.m. Tuesday night, forcing hundreds of residents in the whole town to run out of their homes and buildings to the streets in panic.

The quake was felt almost a minute in the town. The almost one minute earthquake also forced Sangkhlaburi district hospital to evacuate patients to safe area out of hospital buildings.

There is no report of damages yet but Sangkhla district chief ordered all local authorities and village headmen to inspect their responsible areas of responsibilities if there were any damages to homes or injuries.

Thailand Meteorological Department said the epi-centre of the quake is about four kilometres deep underground in Sangkhlaburi district.

Vajiralongkorn dam which is close to the centre of the quake was not affected by the quake, authorities assured tonight. However authorities will inspect the dam structure tomorrow morning again and asked the people living downstream not to panic.

No aftershocks reported following a 4.8 quake in Kanchanaburi last night

KANCHANABURI, 15 July 2015 (NNT)- The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has disclosed that no aftershocks have been reported after a 4.8 quake occurred last night in Sangkhlaburi district of Kanchanaburi province.

Chatchai Siriporn Na Ratchasrima, a DDPM Kanchanaburi Office official, said the province is prepared and remains on alert for an aftershock, after the earthquake took place at 21.20 pm.

Wachilalongkorn Dam and the electricity system in Sangkhlaburi and its vicinity have not been affected by the tremor. Residents living in the quake-hit area have been urged to stay calm.

The epicenter is reportedly located 4 kilometers below the surface in Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary. The DDPM will keep a close watch on the situation even though the quake has not brought serious problems, Mr. Chatchai said.

Overnight quake caused by shifting Sagiang fault line in Myanmar

KANCHANABURI, 15 July 2015 (NNT) - The Department of Mineral Resources has told people to remain calm, as last night’s quake did not jeopardize the integrity of the dams in Kanchanaburi province.

Active Fault and Earthquake Research Center Director Suwit Kosuwan said the department will continue to keep all fault lines in Kanchanaburi under surveillance.

The fault line is 60 kilometer long and is located in Sangkhlaburi district, where the 4.8 magnitude quake occurred last night. Residents have reportedly felt the tremor. The epicenter had a depth of four kilometers.

Mr. Suwit claimed the earthquake was in fact an aftershock that was created by the shifting Sagiang fault line in Myanmar.

Mr. Suwit allayed concerns for the structural integrity of the nearby Srinakarin and Wachilalongkorn dams, saying no surface tremors were detected in their vicinity.

Well I have no real reason to doubt the location of the faultline slip but like all things causing trouble in Thailand they have to point the finger to outside Thailand earthquakes as well huh!

I'm Joking OK
