Illegal Community Radio Station close to Pattaya shut down by officials

PATTAYA: -- An illegal Community Radio Station in the Bowin area of Sriracha District, was shut down on Thursday Morning following non-compliance by the owner of the station who was told in May 2014 to cease broadcasting.

A team of officials from the Radio Department of the NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission), were assisted by Bowin Police and Thai Army personnel and conducted a raid of 95.5FM Bowin Radio. Broadcasting equipment was seized and a 45 meter high tower was deconstructed as its angry owner, Khun Tanasaet looked on.

Despite claims the station was licensed by the previous authorities, he had failed to reapply for a new license and will therefore not be permitted to broadcast and is likely to face prosecution.

Communism at its best another nail in the coffin

Several news reports have indicated that Pattaya's English radio stations are off the air for various reasons including a lack of official licenses and simply the fear of being closed down by government authorities for saying stuff that would upset the correct political regime. Can someone (with knowledge) explain the real reasons and , if possible, an estimate on when the stations may be back on the air.

Or their frequencies interfere with Air Traffic Control radio messaging?

Lets see, Thai shock socks or increased air safety, which would you prefer?

Not everything is a political issue.

I'll bet you anything that radio station was owned by a Red Shirt. I have no doubt it was highly political.

Just an opinion, I have no proof since once again the reporter doesn't know how to file a complete story.
