BANGKOK: -- Nong Charn villagers in Srakaeo province will petition Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in Bangkok tomorrow over what they said was invasion by Cambodian soldiers and civilians of their farmlands.

The petition was revealed by Mr Veera Somkwamkid, a former yellow shirt activist on his Facebook today.

Veera said Nong Charn villagers had complained about the invasion a year ago of Cambodian soldiers and civilians in their farmlands on Kilometre markers 46-48 in Tambon Non Narkmoon of Khok Soong district but so far there was no action to deal with these intruders.

Their presence has frightened villagers to return to their lands for farming.

The latest petition was made to Prime Minister Gen Prayut in June this year, and still there was no respond from the government how to deal with foreign intruders.

Veera claimed that villagers have told him that they were losing patience and they were planning to make their voices heard in Bangkok tomorrow if the prime minister still did not realise of the country’s sovereignty that would be lost to these intruders of the Thai territory.

He said Nong Charn villagers have also told him they would gather in Bangkok and would not return if their plight in losing their farmlands to foreign intruders is not resolved.

suppose the best thing to do is actually make sure the land is in Thailand and not simply squatted on by these people and claiming it as thai with total disregard to the border. If it is Cambodian land then they have no right to it at all but for some reason a lot of these thai farmers seem to think if the claim it then they own it even if it is done illegally and that they are entitled to compensation, go figure.
