PATTANI: -- A villager was killed and another injured in a gun attack on a teashop in Narathiwat's Chanae district yesterday, while a school bus driver was hurt when another teashop in Pattani's Ma-Yor was attacked in a similar fashion in the morning.

The Chanae teashop attack took place at around 5pm, killing assistant village headman Sabuding Citi, 44, and seriously injuring village defence volunteer Maro-ning Dohama, 33.

Police investigation found that two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at the teashop with an M16 rifle before speeding away. Police suspect the attack is part of the ongoing unrest in the South.

In Pattani's Ma-Yor district, another gun attack at 8.30am critically wounded Sapae-ing Pohka, 56. Initial investigation showed that unknown assailants in a Toyota Yaris sedan drove by and shot at Sapae-ing. Police is probing the motive.

Earlier at 3.30am, villager Subeding Uma, 26, was shot dead in Sai Buri district as he walked back home and police suspect this shooting stemmed from a personal conflict.
