libel and computer crimes law too weak

Featured Replies

Was wondering if any genius tvers with legal type minds have any idea how Thai laws of libel and computer crime could be strengthened.

If this were introduced what would the landmark case be?

any chance that actual Justice might get a look in too?

A good benchmark would be to have all governmental establishments abiding with copyright laws and running legal software.

Only then, with said benchmark established, could they even start looking at computer crime and how to control/contain it.

What computer crimes did you have in mind to strengthen?

Like any laws it needs people to actually enforce them or they are useless and pointless.

As is having a real consequence, without these these they might aswell not exist, and therein lies the real problem.

First step is libel reform: put the burden of proof on the plaintiff to prove tangible harm or damage in libel suits, and force them to pay legal fees of the defendant if the case is lost. This will get rid of a lot of SLAPP suits that are brought for intimidation purposes, and allow the genuine ones to be processed.

WRT the computer crimes law, you'll need to give us something more to chew on. The only thing I've seen is this law being used to censor expression and opinions. Since many here might not be intimately familiar with the laws in question, the OP should give a short rundown of the law and point out the areas where they think it needs to be strengthened.

Only people who have something to hide use or misuse said laws in Thailand even some very dodgy foreigners residing in Thailand.

So no need to strengthen said laws but abolish them.

The last thing Thailand need are more laws that restriction freedom of speech.

Death penalty

The laws might be strengthened by the inclusion of financial rewards derived from the property and wealth of the offender, paid to the person who makes the report of the crime.

Thailand can then find itself back where Rome was under the reign of Domitian, Nero and Tiberius.

The scourge of the delators will be upon the people of Thailand, and they probably deserve it for letting it happen.

What about A ndre w H all, as an example, is this an example where stronger libel and computer crimes could come to the fore?

In the case of Andy Hall this is a very dumb move from the company who took him to court the international comunity is watching said courtcase and its silly libel laws and if he goes to jail the European Union will have no problem telling Thailand where they can put theyre pinapple slices or other Thai food export products wich means no export to Europe huge loss of face and money.

These Thai bussiness tycoons don't respect human rights and need to look beyond Thailands borders if they want to do busseniss on an international scale.

I remember this case has more to do with tycoons, something to do with image of exports, don't remember the details though

But you provided a link explaining everything about the Andy Hall case, are you high or drunk perhaps?

I'm not sure what you mean by " strengthening" the present laws.

But they sure need abolished as they make a laughing stock of the Justice system here.

Are you one of the guys who use them maliciously? Your OP header makes me think you might be

There are a couple of foreign chancers who resort to suing whenever one of their scams is reported on
